I would not suggest buying from Frontosa as Massmart stores have the Samsung PS51D450 at R6,500 - R6,999 as mentioned.

PS51D450 > PS50C43x.

Ah so thats the same 1. Didnt check the model no.

Why is the D450 the better model?

Also, ill be sitting 3m+ away from the TV. Will this plasma work nicely for that? 50" 720p?

Cxxx = 2010
Dxxx = 2011

C43x = entriest entry level, no HD video playback via USB (perhaps not any video, only audio and images), poorer menus
D450 = entry level, HD media playback as far as I know as well as video/audio/images, better menus

50" is perfect for 3m. The recommended viewing distance for a full FHD experience with a 50" TV is 2m, so you're well out.

Don't Audiovision supply a Panasonic 42" FHD plasma?

I speak under correction but I don't think so. Someone was trying desperately to get a 42" FHD plasma a while ago, no luck and I'm sure Panasonic was checked...

Your post are really informative thanx again.

So I will be ablet o play back all media files incl mkf format directly through the USB?

Also, which Massmart store had them for R6500?

I haven't tested myself but that is the case discussed here if I remember correctly. The C450 did (while the C43x didn't), and the D450 was said to have carried over the C450's features...

Check Dion Wired/Game/Makro. Think it's on special at DW at the moment. Pity they're in Somerset West...

Found this on a websit:

Most plasmas and LCDs can display a high-def signal. However, you'll need a model with a resolution of at least 1,280 x 720-pixel to enjoy the full effects of HD. Most 50-inch plasmas and nearly all 26-inch and larger LCDs offer this resolution. Very few 42-inch plasmas do, but when you're watching HD feeds on a lower-resolution television of that size or smaller, you'll have to sit much closer to notice much of a difference between HD and what you're seeing. Take Pioneer's PDP-427XG. Even though the set provides only XGA resolution (1,024 x 768), HDTV looks really good on it.

Cant quite understand what this means.

They are saying that to display a HD (720p/1280x720) source/picture correctly/natively/in its truest form, the TV must be ±1280x720 to correspond with the amount of pixels in a true HD source.

They then go on to say that in order to notice the difference of a HD source (1280x720) on a 42" plasma (1024x768) you would have to sit close to notice the difference between a 42" 1280x720 vs 42" 1024x768 playing HD/720p media.

So they are saying HD looks really good on 42" "low res" plasma if your viewing distance is further than the guidelines I mentioned for the full FHD experience.

This is why resolution tends to be over rated, and why I regard picture quality (plasma) more important than resolution (LCD) at the entry level (±R5,000) when viewing distance is outside the guidelines.

Awesome thanx.

From what i rad I'm pretty sure i'm going to go with this Plasma. The Full HD thing sounds like more of a gimmick.
I cant find the place they have it on special for R6500 though. Not on the Dion Wired website promotions pamphlet...

Anybody know where or until when this is available?

which is why SD CRTs kick ass...

It says the resolution is 1,365 x 768 (HD) on the 51".

Is this fine or too big?

Rather restrain yourself if you have nothing to contribute. It saves us energy and prevents you from looking like a fool.

I think you used more energy getting worked up about it than I did posting it. Like you said, resolution is overrated! And as a plus CRT enable you to watch SD in its original picture format without any stretching.
