3D-printed organs on the way?

Sounds a bit premature. Last I read about this scientists were still struggling to create blood vessels and their intricate networks.

Incredibly interesting topic though. I have absolutely zero objections to this...

There are two types IMO.
There are blood and guts replacement organs and there are functional replacement organs.

I could easily see a bio-mechanical heart being developed in the next few years. To see a 3D printed heart that is similar to a biological one? Probability: unlikely.

Hello,

I highly doubt any 3D printing organ debates will be happening any time soon. Although 3D printed organs are definitely a bright possibility for the future, we still haven't come across our first full-sized and functional 3D printed organ.

Hopefully 3D printed organs will be an accessible resource for organ transplants and hospitals around the world in the future. But until then, we have to rely on our engineers and scientists to figure out how to 3D bioprint real human organs.

I disagree : http://www.organovo.com

Currently the most obvious application would be in pre-clinical drug testing.
Other applications are likely to be in the areas of regenerative medicine.
"3d printing a liver" is unfortunately dumbing down the science greatly and not an accurate reflection of the state of the research.
