I see Amazon offer use of their printers now as a service.. Not bad, wonder if it's worth it tho

Looking for 3D printing service on a desktop 3d printer for a small part. Roughly 4cm x 1 cm x 1 cm. Can anyone give an estimate on price?

Hello.I sell 3d printers.I sell the Prusa I3 model. It come ready assembled assembled with everything you need. it comes with 1/2kg filament as a bonus. If you need more details or are interested please contact me on [email protected] or 0768424334 and we can discuss further.

old thread bump. This CLIP system looks amazing:

What exactly is the point of having a small 3D printer? You can't really create anything amazing. Don't get me wrong, it's a seriously cool tool to have though!!

For product / industrial design it's useful for almost anything that size - electronic housings, medical products, functional parts..there's a whole load of things that size. I can see why it might seem less functional for the home user though.

Would be amazing if it could print food :D

This thread has been around for 2 years an no one has attempted to print another 3D printer? :O

:p

Does anyone know a decent supplier in South Africa for 3D printers? Hopefully something reliable and cheap to maintain?

Frontosa has just listed the MakerBot printers.

I have an account if you're interested.

There are a whole lot of brands out there.

Globally, 3d Systems are the best selling units...from what i've read.

Makerbot is a nice product, but for home type use the Cube printers are really beautiful machines.

Don't buy the really entry level units as these are generally not that great. Print speeds are slow, chance of break-downs are fairly good, and generally prints in 1 color.

IMO if you go towards the 10k+ mark, you'll be doing well.

We've actually stopped growing most parts and have opted instead to go back to cnc machining. Growing is cool for intermediary part testing, but for final prototypes the quality of a cnc'd part is (imo) still better than a grown part. Cheaper too. And with machining the end-product is (structurally) much more like a molded part.

Still - I'd like to get a 3d printer for getting quick hands-on parts to guide the design process, but maybe wait a few months for the price to come down & more competition driving the market.

Is there anyone willing to help me assemble the electronics for my Prusa i3 3D printer kit?

Had blown the stock Melzi electronics and smoked a ramps 1.4 set and I fear I need help before trying with the 3rd set of Ramps 1.4 electronics.

I am in the Joburg area but I can bring my kit along. If not I would appreciate a virtual presence while I try again.

If my motor control cable colours are not exactly in the same as in the schematics except red. Would that have made a short?

I fixed them and they are red blue green black. I'll try turning on and see if it smokes again. Atleast I'll know if there is a short before I try the new ramps set.

I now wonder if these wires had not been the cause of the smoking as I thought earlier.
The diagram has it from left to right; red, blue, green , black.
Rampswire14.svg

And this youtube instruction has it left to right; black, green, blue red.

So if it can be swapped like this perhaps it is not an issue having it swapped.
Would that be right?

Darn I never read instructions correctly. I found that the last time i smoked the board might have been the Marlin configuration board setting being on Ultimaker and not 33 for the ramps.

Ill see if the old hardware works first before replacing with new board and motor controls as those are the most likely to have burnt.

Just waiting for load shedding to go away then the testing can start :)

After some initial tests I did not see any shorts or smoke but OctoPrint is unable to connect to the Arduino Mega 2560.

So I must have connected the motors correctly this time and configured the board correctly with Marlin firmware.

The PSU did give an even 12V-13V out on each point.

But one of the motor controls or the Ramp 1.4 Controller Board must have shorted out. At least I only have to replace some parts and not every thing.

Curious about the quality but this does look really cool.
