3D TV in SA

The hole thing with these new TV's is that you don't need glasses to watch movies in 3D

From the article:
Although viewers must wear headsets in order to view 3D video content at home - a frustrating addition for some - it seems likely that 3D enabled flat panel televisions will grow in popularity in the coming years.

Are we able to get a poll?

Somehow I think most won't adopt the technology

It also depends on what tech they are going to use. I know they have circular polarized output, as you get in the movies, then they have the shutter based glasses that syncs to the refresh rate of your screen. I can imagine if they go for the polarized output, you need a new TV.

EDIT: Polarized output also needs special glasses.

You do still need the glasses. They're working on TV's without glasses, but apparently the resolution you get from that is still crap.

Thats strange

I read an article on My Broadband a while ago they spoke of a new HDMI 1.4 format for higher bandwidth and Bluray players comming out with dual HDMI and HDMI 1.4 ports this will allows the new generation of 3D tv's to display 3D without glasses

There was also an article in popular Machanics about it

If you need glasses I can watch 3D on my TV at home already so what's the point. There are several Titles out there with 3D and you don't need to get a new TV. Avatar is coming out with a 3D version for normal LCD TV's

3D would be cool, but that's about it. I don't think sitting in front of the TV with glasses on would be an everyday thing. I would only pull it out to impress my friends :-)

Can you imagine how that's will go you only have 2 or 3 pairs of glasses and you have 4 or 5 friends over only certain people are allowed to watch the movie at the same time

That's really stupid sorry guys it will not be worth buying a new TV for that

Aaai. This is rather confusing because I bought a 63" Samsung Plasma TV that's not even a year old and it was advertised as being "3D Ready" - it is a 7 series, top-of-the-line model. Why are they then releasing a NEW series television for their 3D Blu-Ray player? Something tells me I've been shafted by Samsung. I really hope not because that thing was not cheap.

3D TV is as useful as tits on a nun

I don't agree to that. I'm sure it's a bit of a gimmick now, but it's already proved to be fantastic on computer games. I am a bit surprised that they're not pushing 3D a bit further on the PC like they have with nVidia's 3D vision product. Instead they seem to be moving into the living room area directly. Either way, 3D movies are awesome and 3D gaming is going to be fantastic.

It seams like they in such a hurry to bring new products to market that they don't get there current products to a point where everyone has one

The Just brought out Bluray a lot of people have one but its still expensive now they bring out a 3D bluray it must be for the mass amount of 3D titles out there let me list them mmmm Avatar

Another point is Bluray has come to where it is because of the Playstation guess what guys you will even have to upgrade too

I think I speak for most people when I say they can go F them selves before I invest in another Blueray player

Go Pirates download all the movies as much as you want

the price tag will BREAK my bank, so nothing for me, just for now........hmmmmmmmm, think I'll sell my car......LOL

This is like waiting for telkom to bringout uncapped 20Mb lines :O

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...................

Not sure how this would be of any benefit for the World Cup? Earliest release date in June??

Even if it is as cool as it purports to be, the pricing might just be prohibitive enough to ensure that only the wealthy or die-hard TV fanatics get it. As for me, I got a new plasma last year, so there is a distinct likelihood that I will not be in the market for this for some time to come. :(

In order to keep costs down I am working on patenting a solution that uses 2 ordinary TV's, almost side by side, displaying the 2 images required for 3D viewing. You lock your head into a device (you need glasses anyway) and the device will then oscillate your head at 200Hz between the 2 TV screens.

I'd pay money for this tbh
