I Remember about 12 years ago a SABC 3 Special on TV. Each week for a month they will be screening a Documentry in 3D. They gave away Free 3D Glasses with the leading News Paper and Mags. I recorded it on VHS and used to watch it all the time. So why today do a need a Special TV to watch the same thing? Or am I Missing Something?:wtf:

... so that you can have it in full colour and actually looking good! ... those things had those blue and red lenses in the glasses and looked absolutely crap.

totally different 3d technology

the one back then was a passive 3d, but now its active 3d ie. the glasses are powered.

Anaglyphic 3D (with passive red-cyan lenses)
like the SABC old school

Polarization 3D (with passive polarized lenses)
like an the movies, ster kinekor

Alternate-frame sequencing (with active shutter lenses)
most of the TV's you buying now (expensive!)

:)

but it was the same effect. A Sony Bravia HD's colour is good... so if i hire a 3d Blue Ray movie pop on a pair of new 3d glasses it wouldn't make a difference? its a money making scam if you ask me

i reckon if you do that its gonna look pretty good! :D

I must be honest I have never looked through active 3d glasses. If they anything like the other 2 3d options then I wont even bother...

Maybe someone here with experience can comment on this?

Nope, not the same thing ... some BluRay movies still come with those red/blue glasses, and yes, that is pretty much the same thing ... it's horrible, though, completely removes the colour from the movie when you watch it through those glasses.

The polarized glasses you get at the movies is not gonna do anything for you on your TV at home. They need to be used in conjunction with polarized projectors.

The new active glasses will only work with a new 3D TV, not just any Bravia. The 3D TV sends info to the glasses via IR, telling them when to block each lens. You also need a BR player that is 3D capable and you then need a real 3D BluRay movie, very few of those around at this stage.

... and yes, of course it is a money making scheme ... pretty much everything done by evry company is a money making scheme ... you know, they're kind of in the business to make money :D

Lol Sound so futuristic. but just one other thing .. old school 3d created dept. Does the new Tech have the same effect or does the objects really seem to be outside of the tv screens border/panel or does every thing still just stay inside the screen with the effect of dept

but when you watch those old school 3d movies, the movie is in red and blue, which sucks - not to mention i personalycant actual see the 3d image created (not sure why but i cant see the fake 3d image) i just see a blury red and blue movie :D
but with the new real 3d story its in colour, and i have no problem seing the 3d immage

:)

Ok ok Sound good. what about 3D Ready and Full 3D
This is what I understand
3D ready = 720p
Full 3D = 1080p
?

Just got a 64" 3D LED TV with 3d player - must says it is really nice watching the movies, however probably not worth the R50 000.00 i paid for it - still, wanted it so i got it.

3d tv's must be waist of time, reason is, that everytime u gone wanna watch tv u need to proberly put the glasses on.

having gone for the first time yesterday to watch a 3d movie at the movies ( MEGAMIND ) i was not that impressed, to me it sometimes get a blurry for a few seconds and sometimes the picture is blury if they dont want you to focus on a certain item maybe.

I wont waist money with any 3d tv , also have they tested the prolonged use of such 3d screens on the human eye ? cause its defenatly extra strain on your eyes

Lot of money..... Does they picture quality stay the same on a full HD movie or Full HD PS3 Game when the size gets bigger

thanx. i upgraded my PS3's firmware so it supports 3D games. Downloaded Stardust HD 3D demo and its looks great on sony bravia HD 40" (not 3d) will this work with the 3D blue ray movies to ? I wonder ...

Huh? "... will this work ..."

If you don't have a 3D Bravia, then nothing you did on your PS3 changed anything. Whatever you are seeing that "looks great" has got nothing to do with 3D.

Point Taken. I havnt seen a 3D movie to compare it with. The game does created the perseption of dept thou which is diffenent to other games i have tried. .... Is this all that 3d has to offer (dept) or does the image really pops out off the screen?

What you are seeing is just some nice sharp graphics on a flat screen. Both your eyes are seeing the exact same image, so there is no real 3D effect. In real life, your two eyes are seeing everything around you from slightly different angles and that lets you see "depth", as you call it. With 3D movies, the scenes are filmed with cameras that have two lenses seperated by the same distance as your eyes. When played back on a 3D TV, images from these two lenses are shown, one from right lens, then one from left, then one from right, etc, ie. flickering, but it happens so fast that you don't really see them flickering. Watching this without the glasses will result in the image looking very blurry, because both your eyes will see both imgages. When you put on the glasses however, they block the imges for each eye that is not intended for it and only show you the ones that are, ie. the lenses in the glasses flicker at the same rate and you see an image with the same "depth" that you would have seen if you stood where the camera was.

So, yes, 3D is all about depth perception ... you will not see anything moving outside the sides of the frame of the TV, obviously, but yes, the ability is there to make things look like tey are closer too you than the screen actually is. Yes, that effect lets stuff almost get as close to you as the tip of your nose.
