I have: Q9300, Intel board, 2gigs DDR3 , 3870x2 Asus.
Thanks
Guys if we have overclocked the cpu in the bios and it reads there, 3.1ghz, why is it not shopwing that in windows or in CPU-Z

12843 oms thats shocking man

i got a 17175 with q9330 @3.3 and a 9800gx2

marine when u boot into windows right click my computer and select properties

it will say q9300 @ 3.1ghz if it does not say 3.1 and says 2.5ghz you have not saved your overclock or your overclock was bad and your bios went back to stock

Huh ?

yea in the bios you did click save and exit right?
Yes it is saved. As every time I reboot into the bios it says it is overclocked but in windows and CPU-Z it still says 2.5
I argued with the guys at the computer shop (dont want to mention name) and they said no windows just does not report it or CPU-Z does not report it. I am bloody cross now.

marine what mobo do you have?
if you have a gigabyte mobo i can help

you see marine what will happen if your overclock is no good your bios will default back to stock and boot so your pc does not get damaged

so although its saying your at 3.0ghz its not booting at that to prevent damage

boet im sure you read that you should not buy intel mobo's

its been all over this forum for months

i dont know anybody who has had success with intel mobo's

buy gigabyte asus or msi

Problem is that I was very limited on the board as I am using ATI 3870x2 graphics. I wanted to stick with that card, ASUS so there are not many well priced boards for this setup on DDR3

that 3870x2 will work on any motherboard with 1 pci - e express slot

you dont need a specific mobo as far as i know

its a single card whi will run on any mobo

i stand to be corrected but im pretty sure thats correct

Yeah, basically 2 card in 1 so it's not XFire per say. Just needs 1 PCIe slot.

I hope the computer shop didn't spin you a load of toss to get you to buy it?

You should be getting more. With the below stock standard system I got 13506 on 3dmark06.

Mainboard : Asus P5K
Chipset : Intel P31/P35
Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @ 2500 MHz
Physical Memory : 4096 MB (2 x 2048 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Technologies Inc ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2

Well thing is, you wasted money going with the DDR3, ..and it's been known for more than just a few months, more like always, that Intel boards suck at OC'ing. ATI 3870x2, in all the tests I've seen it gets beaten by single GPU configurations a LOT.

my 9800gx2 gets 13800 score with 3dmark and my q9300 @ 2.5ghz, when i oc my quad to 3.3ghz i get over 17000

also bare in mind 3dmark should not be used to bench these x2 cards because its cpu intensive

the more powerful the cpu the higher the card

rather use gaming benchmarks like crysis or soemthing to determine how good your card is

Hey guys hold on a minute, what is happening here isn't really tied to the Intel board at all. Windows and CPU-Z are correct and unless you got an error message when your computer started then the overclock is working.
Marine1, the reason your speed stays the same in windows and CPU-Z is because by default EIST and C1 are enabled in the BIOS. These are power saving features which allow the system to lower the multiplier when the system is not doing intensive work...

CPU-Z (depending on version) and Windows will read the default clock speed if these two things are enabled or may even read 2.0GHz (EIST and C1 set lowest multi for power saving which is 6)

What you want to do is disable C1, EIST and Thermal Control (if it's there not with Bonetrail board right now) in the BIOS.
Then in the CPU frequency control menu change the FSB or Host clock control (don't recall what it's called exactly) to 400MHz which should result in a 3GHz CPU clock. You shouldn't need to mess around with any voltages but if you do, the fist thing you will need to increase a little is FSB termination, MCH voltage and FSB/ North Bridge voltage which are all in the same menu.

13,000 is a bit on the low side but not a train smash.
I also happen to use the Asus 3870X2 Top sometimes and @ 3.6GHz I can make 20K in 3DMark06 pretty consistently. Just beware that these scores don't scale in a linear or sensible fashion so don't' put too much faith in them. It's best just to use games for testing performance as said above.
