3g backup on router

hi,
i recently got a telkom PACE router with a 3g dongle. I want to use the 3g as a backup for the ADSL. I cant seem to get the 3g dongle to work. Any suggestions? when i plug the dongle into the usb in the router it doesnt seem to pick it up.

Have you checked the router config?

Also, be ver careful with that failover solution. If you have it in and your ADSL fails it doesn't alert you. If your 3G contract is openended, you might get a massive bill shock.

It's on a topup, so I can't be overcharged for 3g.
Iv logged into the router and under connected devices it doesn't pick up the dongle.
It does however work when it's plugged into the pc and dialup separately.

Better check the manual or online for list of compatible modems as not all modems will work, just like you got it to work on your pc by installing provided drivers first. A firmware upgrade might provide support for your modem

Please advise of the make and the model of the router you are using? Some routers do not support USB dongles.

Which dongles do you have?

There are the compatible dongles.

Huawei E153, E173, E1820, E367, E353

I have a dlink dwm-157. does that mean I won't get it to work? If so that's poor planning from telkom as I got the 3g dongle with the router

Dlink will work best with dlink router.... Which they gave me. Its not vdsl
