Hi All

We have been experiencing a problem with 3G clients unable to send my server any mail (Only 3G) for the past 3 months.

We contacted vodamail support, even they cant send me a mail. Still no resolve from their side...

When sending a mail from a 3G account it is delivered to the vodamail sever, only after 8 hours is the mail returned to the sender with a unable to contact server message. But the 3G user can ping & tracert my server.

Now my FC, CEO & 2IC is on my back as they think it is something on our side. Our ISP assured us all is ok...

I am hoping this forum might bring this issue under someones attention that can help, as the helpdesk cant.....
Please help

Gunter

What sort of internet connection is your mail server attached to, and what sort of IP address does it use and where does that IP address come from, and does the IP address have reverse DNS setup?

PS: welcome to MyBroadband :).

Even if you can ping or traceroute to a server does not mean you are resolving the MX correctly. If you can post us some more details about your setup as requested by ic we can try and help you out. Have you got a copy of the error message the vodacom server is sending back?

Hi guys
here is a e-mail that you receive back from vodacom (I've changed the e-mail addresses , server name and ip for security)

From: Mail Delivery System [mailto:[email protected]]
Sent: 06 July 2008 14:30
To: e-mail
Subject: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender

This is the Postfix program at host relay1.vodamail.co.za.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to <postmaster>

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the attached returned message.

The Postfix program

<e-mail>: connect to
mail.e-mail.co.za[server ip]:
Connection timed out

<e-mail>: connect to
mail.e-mail.co.za[server ip ]:
Connection timed out

our Server is running on a diginet line hosted by Datapro.

No Changes were made on the server before this problem started , also as far as we know it's only people connecting via vodacom 3G that's having this problem.

If you need the ip for the server I'll pm it to you

Thanks for the help

You have a public IP. It's not like the internet isn't going to find you. So honestly it's not going to lessen your chances of getting hacked by not posting your server IP and hostname but if it makes you feel better PM me the hostname and IP so I can do some lookups when I am connected this evening at home.

I've pm'ed you all the details , the weirdest thing is that it's only clients connecting with 3G can't e-mail but not all of them ?? a husband and wife both using diffrent computers , same @vodamail accounts, diffrent 3G cards , same settings, 1 can send e-mails and the other can't

I've asked the mail admins to look at it.

I managed to reproduce this mail delivery problem. As per the error message GD123 sent me in PM relay1.vodamail.co.za is resolving the destination server correctly but is timing out on making a connection. You will have to wait for the mail admins to comment as they should be able to see more in their logs and be able to do some testing from the server. My guess is this is a routing issue somewhere between Vodacom and your mail server.

Tx, the admins tell me they had problems with this server before, so they're looking into it.

it's amazing how quick you guys can get the ball rolling.

Phoning support desks just takes forever

Thanks again for all the help

I just want to thank Vodacom3G and morkhans for the quick and efficient reply.

I got a phone call today at 4 PM ish and the problem has been resolved

Thanks again
you gave me hope again for the support in SA

Glad to hear this has been resolved, mail service failure can be really frustrating ;)

Vodacom3G , My questions is :
Why couldn't anyone help me at the support desks ? I've been trying to resolve this issue for the last 3 months e-mailing and talking to a vodacom tech support guys. At the end I'm sure he was ignoring me and just deleting my mails. Can I give you the e-mail and names of the guys I was dealing with ...
My Client is wanting answers of why it took so long to be resolved
I can't believe the best way of getting things sorted out could be by posting your problem on a public forum ? I'm sure you are high enough in the food chain at Vodacom to give me the answers for my client and get the support desks sorted out .

( I know it's not your fault the problem took so long to be resolved, but I'm hoping you could shed the light on this)

Vodacom3G and morkhans

The problem has returned

Could you please look into it again

Thanks
