Hi I have a HP Compaq nx6110 notebook and cant get the novatel U630 card to work. At the device Manager everthing is fine under multifunction device but under modems I have an exclamation mark. I've tried unistalling it, removing the modem then installing it, updating driver and update BIOS. Still nothing...

What firmware version are you using Andrewc? And what version of the dash?

Code 10 clash with modems

You need to go to device manager and change your recource code to 005
This is how right click My Computer-click Manage-Go to Device Manager-expand mulitifunction adapters-then right click-novetal wireless UMTS modem-click prperties-then at the top you will see resources-un click use automatic settings settings based on current settings will become bold then click the drop down menu and select override configuration 005 then click change setting and ok for the alert that will appear then close the box you will now see that the exclamation mark that was on the multifunction adapters will have disapeared and there you have it ........:) ps hope someone was getting this V3g

PRODUCT AFFECTED:
• Merlin U530 MULTIFUNCTION PC CARD
• Merlin U520 MULTIFUNCTION PC CARD
• Merlin U630 MULTIFUNCTION PC CARD

OPERATING SYSTEMS INVOLVED: WINDOWS 2000 AND WINDOWS XP

KNOWN LAPTOPS MODELS AFFECTED:
• Fujitsu Siemens --- Amilo L. 6825, Amilo D. 7830,
• HP Compaq --- NX9105
• iQon --- 1.8 Notebook 8170
• Toshiba --- Satelite 3000

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The Merlin is installed as a multifunction device. It occupies one device location on its bus, but has more than one function. Each function is associated with a driver that will service that operation.
Installation of the Merlin will fail if one of the functions is not properly initialized. Windows Device Manager will display an error with either the Modem or Port device. Error code 10 appears in the properties of the problem device, indicated by an exclamation mark.
To view this, follow steps below.
1. Insert the Merlin into the PC card slot.
2. Go to Device Manager. Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
3. Expand the Modems, the Multifunction adapters and the Ports category.

CAUSE:
This problem occurs because Windows resource allocation is not properly achieved.

SOLUTION:
There are three possible solutions:
First, perform an update driver, from Device Manager just incase during the initial installation Windows did not install the drivers properly.
1. Insert the Merlin into the PC card slot.
2. Go to Device Manager. Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
3. Expand the Modems, Multifunction adapters and Ports category.
4. Select the Novatel Wireless UMTS Modem Parent under the Multifunction adapters category.
5. Right click and choose update driver from the available menu.
6. Choose install the software automatically (recommended) from Windows Hardware Wizard.

The second solution is to manually assign resources to the Parent device
1. Insert the Merlin into the PC card slot.
2. Go to Device Manager. Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
3. Expand the Modems, the Multifunction adapters and the Ports category.
4. Select the Novatel Wireless UMTS Modem Parent under the Multifunction adapters category.
5. Right click and choose properties from the available menu.
6. Choose the resources tab.
7. Uncheck “Use automatic settings” to manually change the resource settings.
8. In the “Settings based on” drop down menu, choose a configuration that will eliminate the
error code. Usually, configuration 0004 or 0005 will work.
9. Choose OK and YES to further dialog windows.
10. Verify that there are no markings on Modems, Multifunction adapters or Port devices in Device Manager.
If this is not successful, the third possible solution is to contact your laptop manufacturer to Update the BIOS of the PC.

the exclamation mark that was on the multifunction adapters will have disapeared and there you have it

The problem is that the exclamation mark is on the novtel under the modems section, the novtel under multifunction adapters is fine.

thats right

Thats right but did you follwo the process anyway the reasson for the exclamation mark being at the modems and not at the multifunction adapters is beacause there is a clash between the modems just try the way we'v detailed i promise it will work or email me your number ill call you

Bundys right all the lappys ive seen wiuth that eror has a resource conflict.....changing rsource should work...if not a bios upgrade might be nec.also confirm that internal modem isnt conflicting ports......hope u win

Code 10

Hi

The trick we use up here in the UK with the Option cards is to remove both internal modem and 3g card in modems/device manager and redetect - yeah its to do with conflicts with internal modem. BEWARE that you may need drivers for internal modem upon redection. Make sure that 3g card is detected first when your watch redection - you may have to do this a few times. Now some internal modems have the means off changing resource settings and you may want to fiddle with this.

This is being looked at by manufacturer. Give it a try.

Cheers;)

Apparently it was a something wrong with the software! If anyone else has a problem like this take it back to vodacom and tell them to fix it. Should give you a new one :)
