I have a netgear wireless router and I'm thinking of getting the 8ta 10gb promo package. The router doesn't have a USB port so I can't plug anything directly into it but I also don't feel like spending a lot of money on a new router + modem.

My questions are:
  1. Is there a way to connect a USB modem to the router via a LAN cable (kind of like a wireless printer hub would work)?
  2. Are there any 3G routers that aren't wireless so I can just chain the two together?
  3. If I have to buy a new router, what is the best one (that doesn't use a seperate USB modem) and supports 21mb?

You will have to get a 3G router if you want to share the internet connection (sanely). No point in getting a basic one which will then connect to your existing Netgear. All the extra cables and config just creates more headaches than is necessary. Go out and buy a 3G router with all the features you need, like WiFi, ADSL failover, VPN, and have a single device to manage in a simple setup. Follow the KISS principle.

Not sure if Netgear make any 3G Routers, but it would be my first choice. Guess this is the reason you are trying to make full use of your existing Netgear, and I don't blame you, it makes sense. I've heard good things about the recently launched TP-Link modems/routers. Just search MyBB news and forums, and you will find some info about them, where to source them, pricing, and user-experience.

I thought as much.

I've searched the forums but it seems that most of the modems use a separate USB modem for connectivity and that determines the speed. Are there any 21mbs, all-in-one routers?

From what I could gather, most routers are not the all-in-one type. You need to plug in external USB 3G modem. I think Cell C are selling an all-in-one device, but you can only share the connection via WiFi. There are no ethernet ports. It's similar to a MiFi device.
