Right, my 2 year 3G contract has expired. I was put on an automatic month-month rental plan until I tell them otherwise.

What are my options? Can I use the modem in a pay-as-you-go setup where you buy data as needed or what?

yep.

dial *111# to convert airtime into bundles.

PAYG is a good option if you dont want to be stuck in a 2 year contract.

It seems I am a bit slow at this :erm:, so please enlighten me:

It is a 3G E220 modem, how do I dial *111#? Can't I just buy the air time over the net by entering the sim number and have it transferred - like when you buy airtime at a ATM?

You recharge the prepaid account via the channels available. I find the ATM easiest as it goes straight into your account. Then you log into vodacom4me once you have registered the number on the site and then you convert that airtime to the data bundle you want. Remember, if you are going to purchase a new prepaid sim...RICA will apply before you can have the sim activated. No RICA = No line!

Also, Vodacom will not cancell your existing 3G contract untill you tell them to do so. If you do not put in a cancellation request the line will just go on as per normal on a month to month basis.

PS....I want to make the following suggestion. Without extending the line, you can request that your 3G line be migrated to a top up package. I have a Top Up 135 contract...so every month you pay R135 and you get R135 airtime. You can then convert that into a MyMeg 250 or put a little extra airtime in via the ATM to purchase bigger bundles. This way, you keep the number you already have and should something happen to the modem and you need a new one, you have the option of upgrading at a later stage to get a new modem.

oh yes...i always forget about that because I am with nedbank and nedbank only activated that on their internet banking a while ago...but yes...you can recharge with internet banking also :)

But be aware that they charge you for the notification sms and some top up charges. Its not a large amount, think it's about R 1.00 per top up. But still... :)
