3g Dialer download and Version?

Hi Guys,

First off I;m a Newbie so be gentle, I'm also from the UK.

Ive been looking at your site with intrest as Ive been desperate to find a dialer for my Vodafone Option Quad 3g Card.

Ive been trying to download your Sites "3g Dialer" without success, Sorry to bore you but here's why.

My Card is Sim and network free and Im using a Sim other than the Supplied Vodafone Sim, The Vodafone Mobile Connect software is Ok to set the Fussion Card up for Profiles and stuff, but doe's not let you change settings for different Networks, Personally I think Software stinks, Even using the Vodafone Sim it eat's 200k just to set the connection?, So having changed the APN within the Modem Properties, I can connect using the Generated Dailer within Windows (using the one that Mobile Connect Created) by changing User Name and Passwords, Although the UK Networks dont seem to care what you put in there? they still connect you.

So what's the Big Deal you ask, well none really, I can connect to 3g in less than a second even auto-redial within seconds when It drops, But switching between 3g and GPRS, No signal indicator, and not knowing how much money I'm spending (although I find OnSpeed helps a lot here), is all a bit of a Pain.

Will the 3g Dialer Mentioned on your Site be off use to me?, if so can someone point me to the download link and what version I need to use, as Im not having much success downloading.

I suppose the real answer is to get my hands on a Copy of the Option Fusion Quad Unbranded Software, But I think Ive got more chance of Santa getting stuck in my Chimney before that Happens.

Vodafone Software

Hi

The way I've interpreted the dialer software is that you still need to load the vodafone software to create the dun connections ie 3g-preferred or gprs-only(which have the at commands in them to tell the card what service to hook itself onto). The dialer software then uses these dial up connections without you having to fire up the Vodafone software. If I read you right, you want to avoid using the vodafone software all together?

The dialler software on this forum was written by biometrics specifically for the Novatel card, so I'm not to sure if it'll work with the Quad.

I've tested the Quadlite with v6 of the VMC dashboard and out here it seems to work OK.

Hi, First off, thanks for the reply.

Having read my Posting again I can see I didn't make it clear when I said I was using a different Sim, What I should have said is I'm using another Network Sim (Not Vodafone) the Problem with VMC is when it connects it seems to change the APN String to the Vodafone Default, In my case AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet" which is whats required for Vodafone, but not for the Network Sim I'm trying to use, even if you change this to the required one within Modem Prop's VMC will still change it, You can change the Profile within VMC (After you have Created One), ie User Name, Password, and APN but On my version anything other than Vodafone it doen't like and VMC seems to Hang together with my Computer.

Hence, why I was Looking for another Dailer.

Again any Help would be Great.

My 3G Dialer was written for the Novatel, but should work with the Option with some minor changes when V3G lends me his card some day ...

Using VMC

Hi

OK - IMO the Vodafone Software is used:

Primarily - Make it easy for customer to setup and connect card.

This includes:
1.Automatically have settings included ie preferred service, network settings etc.
2.Data Counter.
3.Signal strength and assistance with roaming onto foreign networks.

However if you know what you are doing (eg biometric's software), the connection can be done without the software.

Now installing the card is simple enough without installing the software - you should be able to download drivers via windows update as the card is registered in the windows database.

The tricky part now is in no. 1 with preferred service ie 3g preferred but allow gprs, 3g only etc. This is done by AT commands sent thruough to the card which the Vodafone software does but is hidden from you. I was reading through a linux setting on this which claimed having cracked this but this will really only be off use in 'iffy' areas.

You have a choice here off letting the Vodafone Software of doing the dirty work for you (much easier) by installing the card, creating the preferred connections via profiles and then just not using the software again OR doing it all yourself........

In your case since you using a different network sim, signal strength via software is not going to apply since the vodafone software only lists networks it has agreements with which may or may not work for you.(enter Biometrics software)
But the APN should not change at all - you can set this when you edit the profile and should not change to the Vodafone default. To change apn, go to tools,profiles,edit profile, choose defaults until you get to page with apn,username and password - edit accordingly.

After this you don't need to fire up the software again. When you have created your profiles, you will see in network connections that the description of profiles is reflected in the dial-up connections - use this dun's to connect as you would a normal modem.

Automatic reconnections can be handled from the properties off the dial up connections themselves - can be set to automatically reconnect once dropped etc.

I believe that a substitute for a data counter was listed on this forum?

As far as hooking yourself onto a network is concerned well....
The card itself gives you a good indication as to what it is detecting and is hooked onto once it has initialised:

both lights flashing - not on network yet/initialising
one light flashing double pulse - hooked onto a network
red/green light - gprs
blue light - 3g

In most circumstances, this should suffice but heres where it gets interesting:

Roamed onto the wrong network.
- use a phone to register yourself on the right network and then put sim in card. BTW - most newer phones now give you 3G/GPRS strenght indications as well so this will help.
In between 3g an GPRS - twilight zone.
-if you are in luck you could be playing ping pong between connections - and you will see this by monitoring the led's. Just move you laptop around.
