3G Email Problems

Hi Guys

We recently got Hsdpa at my house. I seem to have run into a problem with sending email with outlook through my gmail account. I had previously had the same setup on my adsl line and it worked like a charm. But now it takes outlook over 5minutes to send a 3kb file using my gmail account.

Is there anything I have to change in order for my outlook to work better with 3G? Maybe a different smtp or port number? I tried it and still it takes forever. Receiving email works fine though. Its just the sending.

For what it's worth, I found that smtp.gmail.com is much slower than smtp.vodacom.co.za (or smtp.vodamail.co.za - same thing!)

you need to use smtp.vodamail.co.za

and use your cell number that you registered on V4me with as your username and your password that you used for the V4me site as well.If not registered please do as smtp requires authentication when using 3rd party email accounts.

The reason I asked where you're based is I have a friend in Cape Town centre with the same problem as you, near N1 City I have no problem with the same configuration.

you need to use smtp.vodamail.co.za

You shouldn't need to, smtp.gmail.com is secure smtp, it should work from any network.

I have no problem and I use the following servers with gmail:
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
Incoming server: pop.gmail.com
