Hi guys,

I'm looking for a 3G Capable Router or a cost effective method of using 3G as a fail over system for our network if and when we experience problems with fixed line internet access.

I have looked at different solutions/suppliers these past two weeks and I'm not impressed at the options currently available.

The specific router with these options that would work perfect is the Billion BiPAC 7800GZ but it is a tad on the expensive side, almost R4K according quotes I received and I would need 2.

The other routers are 3G Routers, but you either need a dedicated ADSL Modem and each requires a dedicated 3G Modem as well which hikes the costs up too.

Are there any more 3G Embedded units available with built in ADSL Functions that you could recommend? Or any other options I could consider?

Thanks,
tera ;)

Have a look at the Draytek 2820 range of routers, it supports ADSL and 3G simultaneously or 3G as failover and have really good wireless coverage to boot.

My Draytek have been running for six months without a hitch.

The D-Link DSL-2650U 4-port ADSL Modem that I got a few months ago has a built-in USB port - I wondered what this was for, and after much digging, found a firmware upgrade that allows me to connect up my Vodafone 3G device and use it through the ADSL modem when the line goes down... I haven't got around to testing it fully yet, but it should work according to the info out there. When I get back home in the next few weeks, I'll give it a bash and see what happens.

Please do? I was wondering the same thing when I got a few, but have not had the time, or the USB modem to test it....

We settled for the 7800GZ as per above. They are quite large. Contain 2 3G antennas and a wifi. They're a bit slow wrt to making changes and applying, but I'm sure a firmware update should resolve it.

Great router in general.
