Good day,

We have recently purchased the E620 – Huawei GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA Data. We then purchase the data bundles 100MB/200MB etc.

I am connecting in the Bryanston area, the software shows that I have full signal. When I connect, I get a maximum download speed 240Kbps uplink speed 31Kbps.

The latency on the link is terrible.

Is this normal for the HSDPA link?

Once the link is up I then connect back to the corporate network where I attempt to connect to my exchange profile. Well this is a joke; I might as well use a dial-up. It takes about 7 minutes to connect to my exchange profile, and don’t even try and send an email. I have an ADSL link at home, this exact task is lightning fast.

WHATS UP with the MTN 3g/HSDPA network?

Best of luck with the worst SERVICE PROVIDER: MTN!

Will Vodacom please come in and save me from the worst service on the planet!!

HELP! HELP! HELP!!

I HATE MTN SP STAY AWAY STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By quickly looking at his data rates he is not on HSDPA but Edge, and there are No sites down at the moment.

... or its a very crowded area with many MTNers accessing the same 3G transmitter - 3G is a shared service where rates will come down as users increase.

Also dependant on Telkom's T1 links and a lot of other things

Can you tell which technology you are using at any given point when connected ie 3g or HSDPA?

Ja, that "lot of other things" are the most interesting one - stuff like topography. Pity we only found out these things once we've signed on the dotted line :)

Exactly. Read "MTN 3G Coverage Map" thread for an example of this. Coverage map says one thing but the devil pops up in the details - after a 24 months contract has been entered into. Then only does the "lot of other things" come into play. But I've found a solution for my own problem ... Vodacom.

It's not a good thing when it takes such a step but at the end of the day what do you do

I have just plugged the Vodacom data card into my laptop, WOW unbelievable difference.

I can connect to the corporate VPN and download my exchange mail like i am on the LAN.

MTN you have a lot of work to do, vodacom is miles ahead.

I have a MTN Data Card.

Don't have 3G Coverage as yet but do have EDGE.
Vodacom's coverage map shows that I have 3G Coverage but when I put the sim into my data card it shows 3G/HSDPA for a few seconds with very bad signal and then go to EDGE.

MTN's EDGE is much faster than Vodacom's EDGE.

Vodacom's map shows 3G but I don't get 3G. I think it's better to know you don't have 3G coverage then seeing on a map that you do and you don't.
