Hi

How do i get my 3G card to work with a mozambique sim card?

Thanks

Mozambique does not have 3G capabilities as far as I know. If you give me to tonight, I will check for you what the internet APN is for them on my Ubuntu network manager.

The 3G card should work fine, provided that you enter the correct APN and dial up number. Not sure if VMC will like the foreign sim, so you might have to create a connection manually.

I had no trouble in Ponta do Ouro, it just worked.

I used a E170 with a Vodacom Mozambique SIM card. I didn't use VMC, I used a Netgear 3G router. The standard APN & number worked.

It's fairly expensive, though. But probably much cheaper than roaming.

OK well when i put my mozam sim in the 3g card ,it says no sim card...

But my friends do have a 3g card exactly like mine but bought in mozam and it works. Is there some way to unlock my card for it to work.As this is what i have heard i need to do.

But have no clue how, also vodacom has no answer for me but that could also be lack of knowledge"not being nasty"

This is not a data card issue, but a VMC issue to my knowledge. VMC dont like non Vodacom SA sims. Try and create a manual dial up connection using *99# as the number and internet as the apn name. username and password to be left blank. Not sure how you go about creating it in Windoze. Can someone explain how to do it?

My card asks me for an APN when i click yes for stand apn it say insert correct sim.

Can't speak for the rest of the country but Vodacom Mozambique definitely has 3G in Ponta do Ouro.

Pretty sure that they will have it elsewhere as well - but certainly not everywhere, and not in smaller places.

If you say so...you have been there :-)

I just checked on www.gsmarena.com and according to them there are no 3G networks in Mozzie. Tried the vodacom mozzie website now on my work pc...but its blocked :-(

OK...my advice then would be to get the 3rd party dashboard instead. What make and model data card is it? Option, Novatel or Huawei?

3rd party dashboard?

Iv tried with huawei k3715 and huawei e220.

The Huawei Mobile Partner dashboard will work with any ISP.

Of course you have to use a Huawei modem.

I only use Huawei modems, and only use Mobile Partner - least problems that way.

In your OP, you say you using a 3G card....those we sold the Option, Novatel and Huawei makes. But if it is a usb modem, then its a bit simpler. If you going to use the E220, then go to the Huawei website and download their dashboard software. This is sim independant. :-)

I had 3G in Mozambique, using a Mozambique card - but this card was a "MCEL" card (MTN affiliated). I bought the card on the streets of Maputo (all the cell phone stores told me that is the only place to buy a sim card - weird !! ). Anyway, I put the card into my iPhone, and had 3G around Maputo, and a bit of 3G and edge all the way up to Xai-Xai. I didn't try it in a modem however
