3G iPhone in weeks

The announcement will be made at the software developer conference as Steve Jobs will be doing the keynote.

swift: a $1500 MacBook translates to R15,000 at a local Apple dealer. so i guess a $500 iPhone will translate to about R5000 - probably a tad more as for smaller Apple items this 'exchange rate' gets a bit skewed.

man, i want 1!....no no, i neeeeeeeed 1! No idea how im gona afford it though. Even on a standard contract im guessing youll still have to cough up about 3-4 grand :(

How much is the average human organ going for these days? :D

There's actually another thread about this already. Vodacom will most likely charge for it in the same region as the HTC smartphones on the business packages.

Then in the states, regardless of the package you get, the price of the iphone is one price for the specific model. Not likely the same thing here. The prices are usually the US price times 10 so look for prices around the R4000 and R5000 mark at least.

Now that vodacom can offer decent data packages, it will be interesting to see what they bundle data wise with the iphone. In the states data is free with AT&T.

WHOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Free Data or not, R5000 or R7000, Im getting one!

This article is based on total speculation and is misleading.
"The new iPhone will probably have LAN gaming support, and the much anticipated light sabre should indeed make its appearance."

I hope we don't have to sign a contract or anything, because I plan on buying it cash.

lol @ iphone there is a iphone killer out there ....

These speculative estimates of R5000 are hopelessly naive.
Even the iMate k-jam (precursor to the HTC range in SA) when it was 1st released was over R8000 out of contract.
Bear in mind that AFAIK you don't get an iPhone for free with a contract - you still pay the full price to Apple AND you have to sign a contract.

Slap on top of all of that the fact that Apple gear is notoriously expensive (if I say overpriced its likely to start a mini war) and you may be in the right ballpark in terms of price - remember also that the current prices are for the current model NOT the 3G / lightsaber new model, which is likely to be a good deal more expensive.

I sincerely hope I am wrong but I think that the iPhone will be restrictively expensive when it comes out in SA and dont expect unlimited data from any network in this country ,what are you? A n00b?

EDIT: Last time I checked, T-Mobile in Germany is the only place to get an unlocked (legal) iPhone, it sells for 999 Euro - thats R12,228.

Umm ...yea.

I walked into my local Vodacom outlet yesterday and enquired about the upcoming iPhone. Needless to say, the salespeople had no clue as to what I was talking about. They repeatedly said that the iPhone is not coming to SA. When I said that Vodafone would be bringing the phone to SA and other countries, they again said they had no idea what I was talking about and then referred me to the Apple iShop. Either the Vodacom salespeople have been told by head office to plead ignorance or they really don't know what's going on.

it's great how technology is advancing & by the looks of things, smartphones will be standard in the near future but whats sad is how expensive this new technology is! My guess is the iphone will cost somewhere between R8000 & R10 000 and the price will come down slowly as apple gets close to release the next version of the phone.
