Hi Guys

I have been using Mac for quite sometime and lately I bought a Voda 3G modem and installed the software in my mac and also did a firmware upgrade for the modem through vmware. Anyways the modem is very unstable and it disconnects all the time. Is this usual or should i be creating a manual connection instead of using vodafone software.

Regards

Also try the modem on another computer at the same location - it "could" be Vodacom's tower. At my previous house my 3G used to diconnect ALL the time. Here at my new house it is sooooooo stable. So, could be the tower - test it too :)

I used my E272 modem on my new MBP without installing any software - is my memory serving me correct?

My E272 has the generic Huwei software/FW installed.

Check these settings:

Send PPP echo packets
Use TCP header compression

in the PPP tab of advanced settings. Try changing their existing values to see if it improves.

Where did you find the generic software for the E272? I've looked but couldn't find it. Used to have the generic software for my old E220...

Some of the clever fellows on the forum gave me pointers to the Huwei site - it's found under a different model number.
I recently downloaded from their site an "all models" FW/software and installed it on a friends new USB flash drive style modem.
I'll try a search for the thread - here it is.

Otherwise I think the generic Huawei E270 software might work.

Cool, got the generic Huawei software on my E272 now :)
I must admit - prefer the generic version on my PC but prefer the Vodafone one on my Mac.

I also found a new firmware for the data card itself. I was running 11.311.04.01.00 which I got from Vodacom's site. Now running 11.415.05.00.00 which I got from Vodafone on Hungary at the following link :D http://www.vodafone.hu/microsite/mobilinternet/e272_frissites.html
