I am currently in a location where my 3G/HSDPA signal strength is rather poor which means that I am often moved to the GPRS network which is unacceptably slow. Upgraded the Huawei E272 firmware and took IC’s advice to use the 3G Only setting – the performance on poor HSDPA signal strength is significantly better than GPRS on full signal strength.

So if you are thrown onto GPRS from time to time I can strongly advise that you follow the good advice from the other forumites and use 3G Only :)

Using 3G only also helps so that you don't get disconnected as much. I used to get disconnected all the time as it would continually switch between 2G and 3G.

I've been doing this for the past 3 months in Camps Bay but I get dropped too often which is infuriating on 1 bar so I gave up and reverted to GPRS which is even more infuriating but c'est la vie, you get used to it.
