Does anybody know when Vodacom or MTN or even Cell C will have a 3G PDA-like device available? I nice one would be the iMate PDA2K EVDO (Club iMates Site), although I believe this one will only work on MTN's network. Am I the only one that whould like one of these or what?

My friend has one and its pretty sweet - phone, PDA with wirless, bluetooth and GPRS - awesome !!! :D

He got it on contract with MTN.

Have a look at the thread in this forum on the HTC Universal. It's the next gen i-mate with 3G. Vodafone already announced it as the VDA-IV, so Vodacom should get it.

Check it out here: http://www.htc.com.tw/news/mda.zip

As with most units from HTC, will be known under many names including the JASJAR: http://www.clubimate.com/t-DETAILS_JASJAR.aspx

Just confirmed, we've received the JASJAR and is busy testing.

Kewl. Hypothetical question : How does one get on the test program????

It's more like a rhetorical question......I've not been able to get on the 'testing' program myself... :(

Normally the vendors bring one of their early release models for testing and when done, whisk it away.

I've had to resort to (shock, horror) buying the units I want to play with!

Whooohoooo .... Those phones are both awesome. I just broke me P800 :( so I got to get a new phone asap. Does anybody have a ETA on when Vodacom might release any of the phones?

The Universal (or JASJAR here, I guess) does look like a sweet device, but it's pretty bulky. Be prepared for lots of "Is that a cellphone in your pocket or...?" jokes if you want to keep its 280g in your pocket. I'm really not convinced of the value of having the built in keyboard - still looks too small for any extended typing. I would love to see one with all current features minus the keyboard, to keep bulk down.
