3G Problems in Pta area

Hi V3G,

Yip, 3G up and running again 3 bars as per normal. I am getting 40,4 KB/sec download and 6KB/sec on upload. (3G only).

Well all you guys are very lucky!

I'm in Pietermaritzburg and have been out of 3G since last night. This is the second time its happened this month - its extremely frustrating.

What is infuriating is it is impossible to get hold of any human being to report the problem. I was waiting for an answer from customer care for an hour, at 59:50 they I was hung up on. I tried the call back service – no call backs, I tried 155 and it’s just a menu to listen about the new services or how to set up video calling – no contact with human beings. Eventually after sheer desperation I tried customer care from a pre-paid cell phone, the call was answered in under five minutes. Vodacom seems to be sending a clear message that prepaid customers are more important than contract customers. So after speaking to five prepaid consultants (all getting me nowhere) I eventually was able to get hold of the floor manager at customer care.

Finally someone noted the problem and logged a complaint – one day later, hours wasted on the phone and many years shaved off my life because of the stress of the ordeal.

A pic of what I see while waiting

@V3G: I’ve PMed you the details if you wouldn’t mind checking up on the people who I was eventually able to speak to.

It was only down on the 20th, it should be working fine now!;)

I still have no connection. In eight days I have been able to connect to 3g twice and only briefly. I have reported it to 082 155 a couple of days, and not had any feedback or resolution.

They say the definition of madness is repeating the same action and expecting a different reaction: I'm off to phone 082 155 again. :(

Thanks ic, done that.

Also got hold of 155 in under ten minutes this time, a new personal best. The consultant I spoke to explained that my ticket had been closed, therefore there was no longer a problem.

I must have been confused.

Very sure! And the I am really convinced that there is no human being at Vodacom customer care (or at least nobody that does actually care).

Their song (that I've heard a few million times now) while you wait is so appropiate:

"Don't know what you want but I can't give it to you anymore..."

Did you get what you want?
Do you know what it is? Do you care?
Is he better than me?
Was it your place or his? Who was there?
Did you think it was wrong?
Do you find that it's worse than it was?
Has it gone on too long?
Do you mind that it hurts me? Because
You're breaking my heart

:@v3g, might be best to ask the call centre manager to change the on-hold music ASAP - by the way forumites are describing it here, it sounds like Vodacom is encouraging its customers to fall on their swords or something...

At least it'll bring the average wait time down to 40 minutes....

I actually did mention the on-hold song to them a while ago.

Rikkelz, I asked them to check the queues to see what happened to your call.

Problems in PTA again

I have the same problem as on Tuesday, suddenly I couldn't connect to any sites, try to disconnect and re-connect, and get same error as on Tuesday.

Painfully slowley loading this page with grps....

Morning,

619 problem this morning in Pretoria Faerie Glen area since 07:15. I have logged a call @ 155 (waited 10 min, chatted to Neil). Tried the normal solutions, re-create profile, take card out etc. Can only connect via gprs.

Tried for an hour to get connected via 3G. Pretoria, Moreleta Park area. Eventually connected via GPRS. When trying 3G, dashboard sits there trying to connect and after a long wait gives a message "sim not ready". Exit dashboard, start it up again, switch to GPRS profile & suddenly the sim card is ready & I can connect.

Seems like a real 3G problem again.

Just spoke to a user in the Pta area who could also not connect on 3G and a reboot resolved the problem.

I'm waiting for feedback to hear if any changes were made last night, as it might require your card to do an update.

You can do this by rebooting the data card, i.e. power it off and back on for any new parameters to be updated. Ejecting and re-inserting will do the trick.

Working again with the best upload speed I've ever had!!

Download Speed: 1183 kbps (147.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 346 kbps (43.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Thanks v3g.

I've been having the same kind of problem for the last week now. Almost every time I wan't to connect I get the 619 error and have to re-try to connect 2 or 3 times before I get connected. What makes it worse is that as soon as my connection is idle it gets dropped and then it the 2 to 3 tries again. Sometime I have to try as much as 10 times.

It's getting really frustrating.

OK, now this error 619 is getting out of hand. I had 619 on Tuesday evening (04/07), Thursday evening (06/07) and now Friday (07/07) evening as well. I can connect via GPRS. I phoned the helpdesk this morning and was told that there were some maintenance being done, but all should be OK now. I tried to call the helpdesk now, but after 20 min I just hang up.

V3G or anyone else from Vodacom, what is going on guys? Why are we having so many 619 problems in the Pretoria area?

I have tried the normal error resolutions, delete the profiles, and remove the data card but no luck.
