I have a Blackberry Bold, if I login to Vodacom 4ME I can purchase an Ad Hoc Data bundle.

But, on the services list there is an option for HSDPA/USDPA which is a R49.00 monthly fee, do I need this service to get 3G speeds?

I am on a talk 240 BlackBerry contract!

not necessary, but it will make your 3g faster than it already is. don't know if the phone can handle it though

No, you need that to get 3.6 mbit speeds rather than 1.8. If you BBerry doesn't support that there's no point in getting it.

Great, thanks for clearing that up! I'll check what the phone can support and decide if it's really worth the R50 bucks extra a month!

According to this it supports 3.6, might not be worth the extra if you only use internet on your phone though.

It's not only a question of whether the phone can handle 3.6. The network needs to be running fast enough to get those speeds. Do speed tests, and if you're getting 1.8 all the time, you'll get better speed on 3.6 (possibly even getting up to 3.6). If you're not managing 1.8 now, there is a problem with backhaul and upping the speed your phone talks to the tower is going to add nothing to your throughput.
