I have a few quick questions;

I connect to an edge capable tower which is approximately 8 - 12km from my work place. The signal is usually -79 dbm -85 dbm. So, in most cases i get 4 - 5 bars with the modem ideally situated.

Now if this tower was to be 3G enabled, would I receive 3G connection considering the distance is 8 - 12km and the signal is sitting at -83 dbm average (with EDGE/GPRS) with slightly undulated terain and more or less in LoS?

If at this distance I wont receieve 3G, would an external antenna help in obtaining signal?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply VodacomData.

Looks like i'll just have to stick with edge untill I move as my area doesn't yet have ADSL :(

This is off topic but, anyone know the range of wimax?

Thanks for the reply again.

If I do get an external antenna, in what way will it benefit with using edge? Latency, speed or both?

cheers

It depends if your are close to town where they probably have 3G, poynting could maybe consult with you.
