Hi All

I'm interested in taking out a Cell C or 8ta data deal this month, but there are a few things I need advise on

I currently have a Vodacom K3770 modem and using OS X Lion.
I want to use a Cell C or the 8ta data sim in the modem.

What do I need to make it work with those sims?

First thing, don't use the software that comes with the 3G modem. Secondly, go and download the universal software from the modem maker. Normally the make can be found according to the model number. (e.g. google "K3770 modem software"). Install the software, setup the details and see if it works.

I can't recall, but some of the modems might be locked to a network or not work on the network that you want to use it.

Read all above, it is valid.
Now important note: your modem is incompatible with Cell C frequencies. It doesn't work on UMTS 900MHz. The cheapest quality modem compatible with Cell C is E352 R349 from MTN.

Thanks for the info on that K3770 modem.

I found a old modem of mine the one in the pics does anyone have any assistance if it will work on Cell C or 8ta on OSX Lion ImageUploadedByTapatalk1351841393.093645.jpg

Not sure. Frequency bands supported by modem depends on the supplier. As far I remember, this modem supplied by Mustek didn't support UMTS 900MHz required for Cell C. But similiarly to K3770, it will work on other networks VC, MTN, 8ta.

Thanks Junky

It seems I would need to go for the 8ta deals with those current modems.

What software would you recommend I use to dial in from OSX lion or will the Vodacom software work just fine?

Once you have a modem with compatible drivers you don't need software - OSX has built in dial-up networking. I'm on 8ta using an old Vodacom modem.

I can't find create a network in network settings for a 3G modem.

What generic dashboard can I use to connect my E160G huawei modem to cell c or 8ta on OS X ?
