I need to set up a VPN between an small office (about 5 computers) and a home (which has 3 computers) via 3G on both sides. Is there an ideal setup that would work for this? All computers are running XP.

I was thinking about just setting up a 3G router that has a VPN feature on each site and trying to point them to each other. Would this work? Are there any specificly recommended routers? I do not have previous experience in setting up VPN networks and heard there are a few ways to go about doing it. Im just looking for the cheapest and most effective option.

Any advice or tips on what to keep in mind, relating to setting up a VPN like this, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It's probably a good idea to get a 3g router for each end that can handle the setup of the VPN.

You will also have to provision both SIM's for the unrestricted APN to allow inbound connections.

There are a number of threads on routers and the unrestricted APN. A google or forum search should point you in the right direction.

Is there anything that can get tricky when doing the configuration? Or any common mistakes that are made?

You probably want to make sure the two networks have different internal IP ranges, otherwise talking over the VPN might be an issue.

Not understanding VPNs will probably make life a bit more difficult for you, but nowadays the wizards do a pretty good job of getting you going.

It's going to be really difficult to advise you on every eventuality. If setting this up is beyond your abilities then it might be best to consult with a professional IT company.
