Hi guys

I have the following:-

1 x Mega 105WR Router (http://www.telkomphones.co.za/manuals/Mega 105WR EASY START GUIDE VERSION 1.0.pdf)

1 x 3G USB modem through Cell C (5gig)

1 x Computer Windows 7 (64 bit)

Is it possible to create a wireless environment in my house for laptops, e-readers & cellphones?

I basically have the 3G modem connected to my PC and have internet. Now I want to know if I can connect the wireless router to my PC as well and ask it to distrbute the signal wirelessly.

Back when I had ADSL, the router did this for me.

Thanks Guys

PS:- I am not a fundi so the more advice on how to setup, the easier.......... I have tried the basics, but cannot get the router "internet light" to go on....

PPS:- I can either connect the router through USB, or Ethernet to my PC. Which is best?

Yep you can. The easiest way is to do it through windows Internet connection sharing.
What you would have to do is share your 3g connection now I don't know what cell C uses for the connection however the easist way is to.
turn off your password/PIN for your 3g.
then create a new dial up connection put in the connection string *99# this will dial 3g/GPRS
#Windows 7
ie control panel>Network and Internet >Network Sharing >setup new connection
setup dial up connection
dial up phone number =*99#
password and username leave blank
select allow other people to use this connection radio box

that is about it
you will also need to turn off DHCP on your router as your computer will be the DHCP server
Your computer will then be the gateway
maybe check up a video on internet connection sharing via windows if you use another OS.

I do agree with Carbon fibre would be the easiest there are specials on for MyBB members
http://www.dbg.co.za/list/newsletters/mybb_aug11.html
150Mb N router for R385 but think the special ends today.

other wise you are gonna have to do it for free using microsoft internet connection sharing which is a bit of a hack.
I would check it out on the web, ie google it.
but the points are as follows.
-1st you need to create your dialup connection as shown above
-sort out all connectivity on your router ie setup your wireless so your ssid connects with your password etc.
-now you need to go into network and sharing center
-click on the blue link for your dialup connection
networksharingcenter.jpg

-click on properties
statusy.jpg

-click on sharing tab
sharing.jpg

in the sharing tab you will see a dropdown on which connection to share you need to set this as your local lan coonnection

OK now what this does is gives your local lan an address which is then used as the DHCP server.
So to test your next thing to do is take your laptop plug it directly into the desktop where you have enabled internet sharing.
it should just work now.
the desktop should assign an IP address to the laptop (basically the desktop is the DHCP server)
Now the problem is now that you won't be able to connect to your router as this address if i remember correctly will be something like 192.168.45.1 which is not on the same subnet as your router which is prob 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.2(depending on the router)
you will then have to change your router IP to be on the same subnet as you desktop which you would see in the details tab of the second picture shown here( ie properties of local lan connection) or you could type in
cmd at start bar to bring up command prompt then type in ipconfig which would give you the local lan address.

Once this connection sharing is working and your laptop can connect to the internet via the LAN cable it is time to plug it into the wireless router.
once plugged into the wireless router(which DHCP server would need to be turned off) everything should just work.

once again though your desktop would have to be plugged in at all times for this network to stay "stable" as it would be giving out the addresses.

Would warn you this is a real hack and you are going to battle with it.
Would really recommend buying the 3g router from dbg is well worth it and you can do QOS or limiting by IP address which is a real win in my books.

cheers hope this helps
