Exciting news! The Public Test Realms for Patch 4.0.1 have just become available. This allows anyone with an active WoW subscription (assuming you can get a character transfer through, of course) the ability to test out the class and systems changes coming with the upcoming pre-expansion patch.

Interestingly enough, it seems that the changes to Azeroth (including old-world flight) will not be part of the pre-expansion patch, and instead will come after Cataclysm's release:

How do we Fly? in Zarhym

Flying in Azeroth will not be possible until your account is upgraded to Cataclysm. Patch 4.0.1 is slated to be released prior to Cataclysm and will not include the changes to the old world or any content exclusive to Cataclysm. This patch will apply many systems, class, and user interface changes. It's very similar in nature to the major patches which preceded the releases of The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King.

So for now, enjoy the shiny new talents, interface, and class mechanics, and the changes to the old world will just have to wait until later.

I saw this yesterday... PTR Client is too big for me to download though :(

LF someone with the client in JHB

From what i can see its only US PTR, no EU PTR or does someone have a link for it?

and yet another generation of people get bored of the game and go and complain on forums because they are sick of the content and want new content yesterday.... c'mon people, what happened to finding out about new things when it goes live?

Blue post about this.

Live on eu, just the info that has not been updated.

To download the client, add a PTR account to Battle.net account, from there you can then download the client.

Thanks will download the client tonight:D

Interesting, I didn't need to do any of that at all, in fact I can't add a PTR game to my battle.net account.

All I did was, went to http://www.wow-europe.com/en/ptr/ and clicked on character copy, copied my char over to both PTR realms, then went ahead and started the download.

Oh btw that Blue post has been deleted.

I see now what you guys meant, this new streaming idea of game content while ingame is new to me...though I guess it does allow players to start playing earlier, especially when it needs to leech 15gb. Ohwell at least its going fast on a 10mbit line on WA account, doing about 880kbyte/sec most of the time.

mmo released so inside info, cata should be out 2 november they say :)

I think MMO Champ is wrong. Why do I say that?

Well I think Blizzard will announce CATA release date @ BlizzCon. That would be the smart thing to do. And seeing that BlizzCon is 22-23 Oct I really doubt they will go and say
"Ow and BTW Cata will be released in a weeks time"

I'd think they'd give people enough time to sort things out. So at least a month after BlizzCon.

But ye thats just my reasoning and opinion :)

I actually disagree with you, with the speed that we are getting these patches. And pre-cata events live now on PTR. I think we will definitely be seeing a early november release. Why ?? Lets think, people go to blizzcon, they state oh btw we are releasing cata in 2 weeks time / week. This would create an insane hype and insane revenue for blizzard. I think in about two weeks the stage1,2 patches will go live, and then we will start getting a trickle feed of the pre-events.

I hope you are right. I guess u should fix your lag then :p
(thou did any major patch or raid or content not always spend at least a month on the PTR before it came to live? or do I have it wrong?)

Case of beer to the closest one?

Well PTR was released early this month, which mean PTR could easily go to Live anywhere in October, which is a month or more for it on PTR.

Hopefully the patch will release earlier, the same content has been on beta for a while now(only speculation)
