Johannesburg - Four police officers were arrested in Pretoria on Tuesday morning after allegedly robbing a house.
The officers arrived at a house in Akasia, introduced themselves as police officers and demanded to search the premises, spokesperson Mack Mngomezulu said in a statement.
They took nine cellphones, three laptops and an undisclosed amount of cash.
At the time a woman was at the house visiting her boyfriend.
The officers apparently took the woman to her home in Sinoville.
On the way there they left her Mercedes-Benz at a McDonald’s outlet and continued the journey in their own cars, taking the woman with them.
Staff at the McDonald’s called police, who arrested the officers when they returned with the woman to the Mercedes.
The officers had searched the woman’s home, but found nothing.
“The police will continue to root out all the rotten potatoes within the police service,” Mngomezulu said.
