4 MB line actual speeds

Sorry if this has been asked/answered before:

On a typical 1024/up to 4mb telkom line what download/upload speed can I expect?

Local and international?

On an up to 4 meg line with Telkom I get from 50 to 470 Mb International and usually 4 Mb plus locally , although most of my browsing and downloading is done after 9pm.

I get 40-120 KBps d/l internationally with good sites and up to 400 KBps locally.

Sorry I mean kbs not Mbs( using Opera Mini and not to well it would seem.) I dont know how accurate DU meter is but it regularly shows me local download speeds of over 550 kbs on entire downloads of files 20 meg and larger.

550! Eish.. the site you d/l from must be compressing nicely. Prolly cos you're downloading documents or similar files with white space.

it all depends on what the download server is capable of supplying u with.. Speed ranges from 20k to 450k

I find that on international, most single threads top at 50-60kB/s. Though there are some that go up to 400+kB/s. Locally it's 400+kB/s.

MrMickey you also just need to check under the general tab in DuMeter if tha app is not combining your internal NIC's and your PPoE connections' results..in that case it will always reflect more. Set it to only collect info from your PPoE / dial-up conection.

To get 400+KB/s on int you need to use a dl manager like getright with multiple threads.

My bad, I get 460 KBps throughput on a 4096 line with a multithreaded download

Not sure, wasn't really worried about it.

A lot of people aren't even getting a 4096 sync to be honest especially in older areas with older exchanges.

I get a 420 - 425 KB/s download from fast local and interational HTTP sites, and about 405 to 415 KB/s on international private tracker torrents with a high seeder / leech ratio.

Upload is around 35 to 40 KB/s max.
