Hi, I recently upgraded to a 4 meg uncapped account at mweb. Roundabout a month ago. Ever since then I have been experiencing loss of sync at random times, sometimes going on for almost the whole day. Other times the internet would basically be fine for the whole day, with maybe one connection drop. As you can imagine, this is incredibly frustrating (I dream of telkom employees dying in horrible ways at night :D) and I would like any help you can think of, please. Also, about a week ago I thought I finally figured it out. It turns out my sync speed was 10 meg and this could be causing the connection drops. I lowered it to 7, and the internet was much better for a while. But then it started dropping again like 2-3 days later. Yesterday I asked them to lower it to 6 meg, but this time it didnt help at all. I live in langenhovenpark and am very close to the exchange (under 1km) I have also noticed that my DS and US margin bounces around like crazy, sometimes going as low as 5 or 6 and then within seconds back to 30 or so. A coupler of times it even said it was around 500!!! I am using a duoplus 300wr router (from telkom:cry:) so if anyone knows of particular issues with this router, please let me know. I am starting to suspect the line, but Im not sure, because there isnt really a pattern in the drops. Please give me any advice with even a remote chance of fixing this, because it is really horrible!

The problem you are experiencing is a typical line/underground cable problem.

Try asking your ISP/Telkom to lower your line speed to 4Mb to see if that will stabilise your connection.

The general Telkom technicians will not be able to assist you but before Telkom would take your problem seriously, you would need to log about 5 to 7 faults for the same problem and then demand an escalation number after which the problem would be referred to their testing centre. At this point you may also request a conformance test to be conducted at your premises.

Good luck!

Thanks alot for the advice. So I guess that means that even though I am close to the exchange, the line can still be the cause. I will try it (if I can get through to someone at Telkom who actually knows how to lower the sync speed :D)
