Projects obviously run parallel. My 4Mbps connection was bumped a couple of weeks ago and performance is stellar with regards to latency and general line quality, not to mention line speed of course.

Exactly why you see the halo that the rest of us don't..

I used to connect at 6mbps but only 2mbps after a cable break 8 months ago, logged many calls which Telkom closes as resoved despite it being, helpdesk says there's no plans to upgrade my area and I'm right next to Waterkloof where the 40meg trial is run.

Don't assume the rest of should be happy with Telkom just 'cos you got some attention.

I'd like to join the trial and I have ADSL but I would never use TelkomInternet as the ISP. What are the chances?

Oi,aren't these the rich areas.Guess it won't or ever will come cheap.:D

The trial would be running in the following areas, Sallie said:

Waterkloof
North of Johannesburg
Heart of Sandton
Durban North

You said that most people don't have access to 10Mbps and I simply pointed out that upgrades are still taking place and that every day more and more people are connecting at higher speeds. My house in Bloemfontein received 10Mbps yonks ago. When I moved to Pretoria, we received 10Mbps there. When I moved to a different part of Pretoria at the beginning of the year I had only 4Mbps but have now been bumped to 10Mbps. It's a massive network that requires lots of testing to try and minimize the odds of the network failing, it's not a 1-month process.
Large parts of Pretoria North and East are now running at 10Mbps. If you don't have access to these speeds, perhaps you should move to an area with higher ADSL density, if it's that important to you?

Yup. You don't get much for under R2mil in Waterkloof and most properties are well over the R2mil mark. 40Mbps is going to cost some serious money!

AFAIK the field trial period (3 months) is not going to cost any extra.
After that who knows.
