So with the emminent release of the 5870, I thought I'd take advantage of the 4870 price drop and get another one and go CF rather than sell my current 4870 and still pay quite a bit for a 5870.

Now what I want to know is, my friend is selling his Sapphire 4870 right now for R1500. Should I take it now? Or wait for the 5870 release and get a 4870 then at a cheaper price? My only thing is, how much will the 4870's drop by??? It seems hardly worth the wait if they only drop R100 or R200.

I reckon R1500 now is good as most 4870's sell for about R1700. What do you guys think?

Well a brand new xfx 4870 sells for R1600. I would wait if I was you.

I doubt we'll see significant price drops on the 4870 in the short term. The new cards will only affect the high end, GTX285 and GTX295 prices. The HD5850 is going to come in at around R4000 and the HD5870 at minimum R5000 so it shouldn't affect the 4870/4890 price much.

R1500 is fair price - not spectacular but not bad either. Computersonly price is a joke because they NEVER have stock - trust me i've been waiting for them to notify me for months now.

Lol....I think YOU should maybe phone and find out. I have a friend who bought two of those cards from them not more than 2 weeks ago;)

I've never had a pc store phone me up and tell me that they have stock (after i tell them to phone me when they have stock ofcourse). They will always say that you should leave your details behind and they'll contact you when stock arrives, this never happens though

So you need to be checking with them every week at least

Yeah but they said they don't know WHEN they'll have them in because of the enormous supply issues they're having.

as a matter of interest, how should i be able to get away a 512MB Asus 4870?
