For the last 6 weeks, I have been having a nightmare, trying to get ADSL speeds on my fixed line in
Johannesburg, above 1.35 MBPs download, at a cost, of about R2000 a mth. On many days, I get less than
0.5 MBPs, and, a service that is less than world-class.

I walked into a Telstra shop in Sydney, bought a 4g sieraa wireless modem, for Aus$300 .. about R2500, and within 30 mins, was connected to the network. I did a speedtest, and got, download speeds of 14.23 MBps.

Just moved to melbourne, and got this speedtest : - 9 mbps download.

Its wrong to compare, but, it shows just how far behind, our national supplier is, and the effects of its monopoly.

You're comparing a fixed line product to mobile? Okkaaay
Our 3G/3.5G Speeds are fine. And our mobile speed average is on par with international standards.
