Hi MyBroadband

My friend told me that he got a really good feedback from posting in this section so thought i'd give it a go.

I'm currently busy with my 4th yr BTech.IT project in Communication Networks(CCNP certifications etc.). I'm looking for some information with regards to this up and coming technology known as 4G. My scope is along the lines of explaining why 3G is going to be replaced(ie. whats wrong with 3G and why they've developed 4G). I also want to know what SA Service Providers are doing to upgrade their networks.

Any sort of information will be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Due to the fast uptake of Mobile Data services, it is suspected that current tech will not be sufficient to handle the load. 4G LTE looks to solve this problem by providing much faster links. LTE will also be a IP network (not sure what that means but keep on seeing it in articles). LTE is also much more frequency friendly, so spectrum efficiency is a big plus with 4G LTE.

Vodacom is currently converting the network to 14.4mbps with 21mbps to follow soon. This is however not considered 4G LTE but a step towards it. I think the only active 4G LTE network currently in operation is in Stockholm by Telia Sonaira.
