So I was having a debate... argument... with a friend this evening about the topic above... :)

Intel Q9550 on Asus P5N-D with ATI 4890 running games full detail with AA and AF @ 1900x1200 in Win 7 64-bit on SSD.

Will there be a performance difference between 4GB and 8GB ?

oh.. the memory is Corsair DDR800 dominator 4-4-4-12

your comments please

thanks

No mostly not simply because there is no games on the market that requires that amount of ram.A game will never use more ram then required so if game only requires 2gig it's only going to use 2gig even if there is 8gig ram available.

I agree, more RAM on a 64-bit OS comes into it's own when working on multiple applications at once, but I don't think it'll have much (if any) impact on gaming - unless you want to game, e-mail, do CAD, watch videos and run a VM at the same time...

I found I was able to play Crysis on a higher res or with higher AA when I upgraded from 2gb to 6gb RAM

Ya but it is logical that you cannot tell the difference, if you are not using 8gb why would there be a difference? I can agree 2gb and 4gb there is a difference but not 4gb to 8gb unless you use 8gb :D.
