4K TVs are taking over the world

I have an old 1080p TV and my reasons to stick with it were much the same. Until I realised, if I gave my parents that one, I could splash out :D So I did \ :D /

Unfortunately, my parents are 10000kms away.

The transport would cost more than the TV so I don’t have any valid reason (even fabricated) to change.

What size can you use? I have a 43inch

Too big .. Would have had to cut away a chunk of the wife's display cabinet to get it to fit. And no, there is no way that cabinet is going to be dumped because a TV wont fit in it ...

BUT .... 4k/UHD TVs are ONLY available in the larger screen sizes ..... Way beyond what makes sense in my Lounge. The basics still apply ....

One of the basics is the higher the screen resolution, the closer you can sit to a given screen size. I'd have no problems fitting a 70" 4K TV into the space my 55" FHD TV currently sits.

edit: aah, I see the problem is actually clutter :D

Your loss then if you insist on keeping antiques in your house. Nobody is going to make a 40" UHD just for you...

Saying that I’m still with a 720p TV.

But I honestly don’t see the need of changing until this one dies, surprisingly it’s one of the fine things in life I couldn’t care less about.

This. I'm not upgrading from my 720p tv unless it dies or I move to a bigger place.

Was looking at TVs in Game today nobody had any idea if their 4k TVs had HDR

The sales people are dum, they can even fool the customers that come there who don't do their own research and rely on the sales people for info

Unfortunately, content is becoming a very narrow horizontal stripe across the middle of the tv. The is little to be gained from a UHD tv if you have to zoom the **** out of the content to get rid of the black top and bottom bars.

I have no idea why the idiot producers insist on releasing such thin content for home viewing.

So you actually do agree that 40" is not an unreasonable expectation for a UHD TV!
BUT here is the rub. The UHDs available locally in that size are all Smart TVs only.
What I was looking for was a non smart version but none are imported into SA or made locally.

We have HD ones.. will upgrade when the price comes down

Agree 100%. The price of TVs are just crazy. Anything over R4000 is just a rip off.
So that was my limit and why I made the purchase on black Friday and went for the best I could get at that price. The issue I had with ALL the major outlets was that many advertised great deals on 40" - 43" TVs and then had no stock and tried to sell off display TVs at the same price as a new one.
