Hi all..

Well im on my Mweb 4mb uncapped :/ ... but funny thing is the Web browsing is 100's...upload is good..but when i download even from Microsoft site i download at a speed of 130kbps ?!...how is that possible when my 1mb line gave me 110-120kbps ??!

Checking my speeds on Speedtest.net is good..avg of 3.4mb which is not bad for me..but when im downloading at 130kbps that kinda seems abit weird....anyone out there experiancing this to???!

Regards

Phone telkom and get them to do a port reset otherwise it is some kind of throttling going on.

Are you downloading from that microsoft website with a single connection made? What happens if you use a download manager with more than 1 connection?

Who is your iSP?

Major players like Microsoft use content distribution networks/providers, so you're not downloading directly from them. The actual offering server could be in SA so don't think that you're downloading from MS head quarters. :) Alot of that CDN stuff can get overloaded or seem to be bandwidth limited to ensure they are accessible even if that means slow speeds (or usually limited simultaneous connections per download). I'd even think those CDN providers oversell what they have.

It's all kinda geo-located and cloud based these days. It's like a box of chocolates ... you never know what you gonna get.

Do a test with a popular P2P torrent. If you hit speed you expected, then you'll confirm it's Microsoft, other possibly your network provider.

Another way to confirm is to get a multi threaded download manager; typically these can bypass any throttling on the Microsoft side I.e. throttling is usually done per session - a good one will open multiple sessions on different threads, allowing you to burst beyond the server's session limit.

Try Free Downlod Manager Get the lite version

Noise is actually very important wrt how stable your connection is so if that is what is the problem then that is most definitely the root cause. Wait for the technician to come and check. Also take note of your router stats before he comes to compare and post them here.

It should be under your router's info page or statistics page. :)

What did the technician say about the NOISE on the line?

Those details you pasted above is just how much data sent and received. Look for something that states Attentuation / Noise margin with "db" ratings on there.
