4mb/s Options - Afrihost, WebAfrica, Openweb, Plugg or Telkom?

Right... I'm only a little bit of an anti-mweb rant at the moment (stupid throttled accounts).

The mweb premium product is great... but when other ISPs are offering an equivalent product for much cheaper, then I have to move. I decided to keep my ADSL rental with Telkom, so just looking at Data

So here are the options:
1 - Openweb Standard - R349
2 - Afrihost - R397
3- Plug - R429
4 - Telkom - R369
5 - Webafrica - R339

My criteria:
* No throttling!
* A newsserver
* (Relatively) low contention ratio
* Decent telephonic / electronic support
* Gaming priority preferable but not essential (dont really online game that much)

Any other options I've left out? Anyone who has been with more than one of the above and can give feedback?

Plugg runs full speed whenever I use it. The Janitor has said they are reviewing pricing. Note some accounts have TWO concurrent connections.
 
Have been with them all except OpenWeb.

Your answer is PluGG
 
From experience, I'd suggest Openweb.
No throttling.
Shaping as during there is network load, but it's generally always unshaped at night and over weekends.
Support is pretty good for a small company.
Gaming is awesome, as the latency is low and I've never noticed frame drops with them.
News server access via news.is.co.za
The contention ratio is pretty decent.
 
OW over plugg. They are the same accounts (OW standard), plus with MrBeep on the forums here you get much prompter service.

OW silver >>> plugg.

Ask MrBeep and The Janitor for test accounts and compare the two yourself.

Why pay R429 for Plugg when you can get 2 x 4Mbit Silver Uncapped OpenWeb accounts for a few bucks more? :erm:

You basically get the second 4 Mbit Uncapped account for 40 bucks.

Plus they have free WiFi, and they don't throttle at all.
plus SSL, don't forget that!


For usenet downloads during the day, OpenWeb really is the best to use.
 
I am very happy with my OpenWeb standard account. P2P and NNTP during office hours is a no go mostly but this doesn't bother me in the slightest as I do my downloading at night. When I get home from work my internet is always going full speed :)
 
MWEB 7 day trial was good. Used 120GB. Currently on Telkom uncapped. When it works, it is good full speed P2P during office hours etc. I have used trial accounts from all who offers them. I would choose Telkom. Hope they get sorted with the new network etc soon.

Also looking at Vox aggressive VDSL pricing http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/506082-Very-aggressive-20Mbps-and-40Mbps-VDSL-data-prices-emerge. Those are pretty good pricing on unshaped data. Cant one just use that account on ADSL line?

Huh? Maybe I'm just special.... I get full speed on NNTP 24/7 and pretty decent speeds on P2P every time I try it.

You are not special, sorry froot.. most of us get full Usenet speed 24/7

if you use P2P then don't go with afrihost they will shape you to a snails pace. till the lines free up, which is at about 23H00.
