Somewhere far far away.
Anyways my 4MB line has been very stable since I had it installed, since the weekend it has been getting worse.. Does this make sense to anyone?? It's log from my router..
It runs ok, for most of the time, but then just randomly the line / DSL light on router goes off for few seconds and then reconnects. It will does this about 3 - 4 times then stay stable for a couple hours then just randomly do it again for a few times. Last night it did it only twice after coming off from work and the rest of the night it was fine.
What I tried: New adsl filter. unplugging phone and just running dsl modem by itself.

I did how ever notice a soft hiss sound on line when I tried phoning telkom (after 40minutes still no answer and got Gatvol..) So will have to go into telkom office tomorrow.. When I tried phoning my mom just after 8pm the line was as clear as day and no noise at all.. :wtf:

I'm a true Telkom hater, but it seems as though someone was either doing maintenance at your exchange, or a techie installing a new line in your area.
I Wouldn't get too worked up quite yet...

after 40minutes still no answer and got Gatvol

After all the noise they have tried to make about launching 8ta and spending over six billion rand to launch their cellular service, would it really kill them to employ a few competent people to answer their phones?

lolz a have seen some activity happening at a bunch of these small green and blue boxies next to the road.. i don't even know where is the exchange near my place.. But why would if mess around after work when telkom techies should be off work?? I wanna go fight tomorrow.. but scared they gonna drop my speed below 4mb.. it has been stable the whole year.. only since weekend starting giving sh*t. Plus I'm from Empangeni.. I highly doubt we getting 10mb any time soon xD

Same problem here, my line can't sync at > 2meg but it's been running 100% fine like that for a couple of months. Lately however, I have good & bad days. Monday & Tuesday was fine, then last night I had multiple disconnects, downloads stalled etc. Telkom's clueless why this happens, saying they tested the line & everything's fine. Told me to wait for 10meg upgrade - when I asked when this will happen the response was 'I don't know'. It really really bugs me that they advertised how 'world class' their network is yet they cannot even sort out the basics.

Do you get sync problems during bad weather? I had a problem a few years back when the Telkom guy came, we checked the cable connections in the ground close to my house and found that the hole in which the cables where with the connections to several house was filled with water. Cleared most of the water and position the box so that if water do get into the hole it won't be sitting in the water.

Next time it goes wonky, pick up a handset and listen for crackling (Pork YUMMY!), or the other other favorite : A crossed line.
This will help you to direct the techie in a useful direction to solve the problem, and possibly give you some local gossip to spread while you munch the bacon.

Lolz glad I reported it to Telkom they came out this morning to have a look around.. The little white box on the pole at the back of the house was little loose or open and a bunch of wires had some corosionor something like that he said. He rewired mine and a few other and put some plastic plugs over them so they won't get wet again, then he sealed the box nicely again.. It has been running smoothly again so far.. Will test and monitor it during the whole weekend.. Sooooo glad now.. : )
