4Mb Telkom line syncing at 1-1.5Mb

Hi Guys,

I have Telkom tech coming out in the next hour to have a look at our DSL line.

The details:
We have a 1-4Mb Telkom Line.
MWeb 4Mb uncapped account.

The problem:
The line only syncs at 1-1.5 Mb and the highest Attainable download rate (kbps) I have received is 1.7Mb. The Attenuation (dB) on the line is 59.5 and the Noise margin (dB) never higher than 7. MWeb said we must speak to Telkom re the Attenuation.

Have spoken to the tech on the phone and he said that it is due to the fact that we are so far away from the exchange (will find out how far exactly).

He is now coming out to have a look at the setup as he said there is a DSLAM in our road that would sort out the issue but there is only 2 ports left and he doubts we would be able to get one....

So my question - anything you guys suggest I ask to make sure I get all the info so that we can get to the bottom of this eg: if it isn't possible to get higher speeds then it is fine, but then need to know that there aren't any other reason for the slow sync speed.

O ja, we are in Viola Road, Bloubergrant, so if anyone else is here closeby let me know what you speeds are?

Yup, you're too far from the exchange OR it could be a problem with your line (like corroded terminals).
If your line is in tact and they won't move it to another DSLAM, then you should rather downgrade to 512kbps to get your connection stable.
 
Thanks guys - connection is very stable, so no issue there.

I did a speed test a couple of days ago, and usually it is 1.3Mb, but once it actually junped to 3.3Mb. Not sure if that means anything.
 
Tech was here, dropped the line to 1Mb which got the SNR up. But download speeds are down from 150kb/s to 100kb/s - so going to get them to change sync profile to 2Mb. Line stability was fine even at 4Mb.

No available ports closer to our location, so not much can be done. Will try them in a month's time again to to see if they can move the line.

Wish MWeb had a 1.5Mb package :-) That would suite me fine.
