4Mbps Afrihost Uncapped - Rate limiting woes

Hi

Would like to know if anyone else has experienced this with the afrihost uncapped account:

Was pulling some news over SSL at a lovely 3.0-3.5Mbps + then as the weekend approached rate limiting to 2mbps kicked in..

Annoyed.... Today mid afternoon rate limiting to 1.5 mbps...

Okay I understand that they are allowed to shape their traffic.. but seriously where is this going? I could possibly end up with 384kbit line speed and be paying for a 4mbps account.

Seriously considering going with mweb next month.
 
Speeds arent that great, but there is no usage based throttling as opposed to afrihost
 
I've been on Axxess 4Mbs Uncapped for six days now. Speeds were great at all times of the day (also in the 3.0-3.5 Mbs), managed to pull a shameful 150GB. Then today, the power tripped and my damn router reset, now I'm getting 40Kbs. Am I being shaped that badly?
 
Sounds a bit excessive, would try another account before nailing it on shaping by axxess
 
Well, just tried my Afrihost 3GB capped account, got full speeds from the same servers. So it must shaping...rather annoyed.
 
Afrihost vs. WebAfrica: no contest ...

I tested against speedtest.net and achieved the following download speed for Afrihost: 0.88Mb

I switched to WebAfrica and (within two minutes of the above) achieved the following: 3.41Mb

Logged a call with Afrihost. I'm still waiting for their explanation / excuse ... :mad:
 
just an update. this morning before 6 speed went back up to full speed..... will continue monitoring, already spoke to support... will see where this goes.
 
well... getting 7KB/s, that's pretty close to dial-up... isn't that magical? At least Afrihost refunded me.
 
I think cancel and wait with baited breathe what is coming as of June 1st, reason i say this is because i am sure we should see some ISPs (WebAfrica who already have 3000 cleints) pushing out upto 10MB line speeds so they should revise pricing or atleast give us more :D. I say get a prepaid account and wait. I have been holding out on taking an Uncapped account and its nothing to wait till june 1st, well atleast i will know who to go with even if its disappointing.

If Afrihost just shape like that then they don't deserve the moni however today on mweb uncappped @ work (384) speeds were real bad so its possible that could be related...
 
my Afrihost 4meg uncapped account is pathetic...it is the 1st of the month now and speeds are so slow I could just #@$#$

any other options out there?
 
These accounts aren't meant for P2P and Rapidshare/Megashare type of downloading. If you get a decent speed from like speedtest.net, then you shouldn't complain.

If you do get a crappy speed from speedtest.net even after hours, then you should have a reason to complain though...
