Hi guys , I have noticed my 4mbps line never goes above 3mbps , I have good enough attenuation rates to get well above 4mbps but it's just not getting there
here is some info :
4mbps package with mweb :(
Line attentaution : 44.5 dB (downstream) & 29.0 dB ( upstream )
it used to sync fine until there was heavy rain or thunder ...
but i have noticed a pattern , every time i get throttled by MWEB , my line starts syncing at 4mbps , i as you'd imagine i am getting really angry at them for not bringing their side of the "deal"

And your signal to noise ratio?

PS: 44dB for attenuation sucks.

You tried syncing left?

You don't list your SNR so can't really help.

Try any free ISP account out there (click my signature and try Web Africa). If your line suddenly starts syncing at 4mbps, then there is something fishy going on and I'd change ISP's if I were you.

What does Telkom say when you logged the fault? (or MWEB if your line is with them)

Therein lies the problem.

Speed of line sync has nothing to do with ISP :erm:

My bad, but he says that whenever he gets throttled by Mweb, his line then syncs at 4Mbps?

And just before that he said:

His line is ****ed. The fact his line is managed by his ISP has **** all to do with anything.

Here is my noise margin , and line attenuation
and my line is with my ISP , every time i complain they just do a port reset
@Rickster .. i know it sucks , but it should still be able to handle a 4mbps line fine

That noise margin of 6.4 that's the problem.

You want at least 8 for something stable. Preferably higher though like 10 or 12.

I suggest call Telkom and tell them your line disconnects when it rains.

That ADSL connection must be hanging on by a thread, the minimum SNR is 6dB, the connection is just too bad for a 4096 connection.

You will have to find a new house closer to the exchange or a new exchange.

^^This ... and that's when it's syncing at 3Mbps. I'm surprised it occasionally syncs at 4Mbps, be interesting to see the SNR when it does.

Any noise on the voice side of the line? If so book a noisy line fault (don't mention ADSL) and get Telkom to sort it out.

^^This.

Sometimes reporting a noisy voice line gets faults sorted out much quicker.

yeah the voice line has allot of static noise .. thanx for the help guys .. i'll give telkom a call , or try to get help from the mybb telkom user :)

@ENIAC
Don't worry you are not alone.
See my modem stats, a bit higher. The only worrying thing is will never achieve 10Mbps.

Sometimes I lose my ISP. Sync is still present but no ISP.

You having a bad day or something?:wtf:

okay so ... my noise margin is better , but i'm still not getting anything above 3mbps . Telkom says that 10mbps is available where i live , but just like @howto i guess i'll never see that happening :'(
