Any tips on how to actually get this contract, or rather how to convince the sales person that it actually exists and DOES make sense to get it?

I went to 3 4U stores and 1 normal Vodashop [in Pretoria]. So far i've been unsuccessful, although Brooklyn "might" get back to me.

Answers i got:

1. The 4u zero contract has been stopped/disabled. [Centurion]
2. What contract? Let me phone and find out....why not take out a normal contract?
3. Never heard of it, i think it's only a 4U thing [Vodashop]
4. We don't have any application forms, we don't normally get people on that contract......[nervously starts phoning around].
5. What do you want to do with this contract?

huh? Any magic words i'm missing? IS this contract still going? IS it available to the public?

Phone the shops till you find someone who knows about the contract. Get that person's name and tell him you are coming over. Print out the page from the Vodacom website and take it with. Give them a mobile number of a friend who is already on that contract. Don't take "no" for an answer.

AFAIK Vodaworld knows about this contract. Maybe just go over there.

Yup, I picked up one at Vodaworld last Wednesday. I got it from the 4u store, on your right as you go in the door. Ask for the 4u "month-to-month" contract.

There is some paperwork to complete, and if Vodacom doesn't already know about you, you will require three months bank statements, payslip and ID (drivers license acceptable), or if you have a gold card, just the gold card and some ID.

PM me if you need my mobile number like ajax suggested, but I doubt you'll have any trouble.

You are not alone in this. I went to the airport vodashop and they did not know what it was. They phoned the bridge and they also did not know. Tolday i asked Tamara Melville (manager) from Vodacom Bridge pe if my motorola v360 is edge capable and she said nnnnnooooo. The techies in the back said noooooooo. Vodacom walk in customer care looked it up and said yes it is. Their mag. page 37 Autumn 2007 vodaworld said yes it does.
Cannot get edge in pe.
They say pay for the removal of the vlive if that is what i want. But my phone is not edge they say.

I also know it as the month-to-month contract. Got mine from Vodashop Centurion last year.

AFAIK there is no "Zero" in the name of the contract is there?

I also went to the 4U shop @ Vodaworld and did my 4U contract there, filled out the standard Vodacom contract form, with ID & bank statements etc etc etc, it took about 15 minutes and the conversion of my existing pre-paid SIM card to the 4U contract was completed by later the same afternoon.

True, on the Vodacom contract application form, there is a 4U tickbox IIRC, doesn't go into detail about what type of 4U contract you're applying for, but anyone taking out a 4U contract with zero compulsory monthly fees should insist that itemised billing must not be activated on the account when speaking to the consultant processing the contract application form - maybe write on the contract application form NEXT TO THE 4U tickbox "DO NOT ACTIVATE ITEMISED BILLING".

Ok, that might explain the initial blank stares i got, but i did however made it clear what i mean by "zero" as in "contract with no monthly subscription so i can load data bundles" . It seemed that just confused them even more...

Anyhow i'll go past Vodaworld sometime and take all the advice with me. Good point on the itemised billing part thanks ;)

Vodacom Centurion

Tried there as well. Painful 1 hour long process and at the end there is no 4uzero on their system; only 4ucontract. Insisted that they take the paperwork and they promised to sort out tomorrow. Will see and wait, but MTN prepaid definitely less painful. Come on VC.

Yea, i jsut went to check on the website:
http://www.vodacom.co.za/pkgcr.do?action=getpkgsgroups&pkgTypeId=1&pkgGroupId=7&packageId=16

It is indeed "4U Contract" . The really silly part is, there is only >ONE< 4U contract! That's it, no variations, nothing..just the single contract. So obviously just saying "4U" and "contract" in the same sentence should at least have rang some bell in an employee's head working in a 4U store...huh?

Not even a "we don't know about a 4U Zero contract, but we have this 4U contract .." , isn't that a sales person's JOB ? Maybe Vodacom should invest in those "self-help" touch screens from Ster Kinekor ...their sales people is a severe "barrier to entry" in my experience.

That's like the Volkswagen Salesman not knowing he actually sells the Golf....

Ok, seems Vodaworld Midrand knows what they're doing. Unfortunately i STILL couldn't get on the contract because i canceled my vodacom contract in Feb [yea now they make me pay].

It seems Vodacom shuts off your account but leave it on the system to "settle" , so now i can't take out ANY new contract nor add my contract to that account until they decide my account has 'settled'. This can take months...so screw Vodacom just get the prepaid bundles already. Back to MTN then.

Vodashop Centurion and 4U contract

Have tried this before at Centurion, got nothing, but blank stares so I walked 3m across to Musica and bought some more Virgin airtime.

Tried last year to sign up for a messenger contract at the same shop and they claimed I had shortpaid them R7 on my normal account so they declined it. I walked out in a huff and to Musica again.

I don't want to have to babysit my data connection living in constant fear of R2/MB when running outside of bundle.

Just give me a PPDB of my choice and a SMS once it is used up .........

PS. Make it cheap and let it happen yesterday.

That reminds me - there is also a 4U Prepaid - make sure you dont get that one if you're looking to add a data bundle.

Yea, but i think skipping the heaps of paperwork would tip me off quickly ;) .I'm sure the 4U prepaid is simply an overpriced simcard which you can buy for 99c at Game/Pep etc , but the shop will probably make you pay R200 for it.

Sounds familiar. They declined my 4U Contract application in a similar fashion, although i haven't short-paid, i just merely cancelled my account and now they can't make a new entry while it's still on the system [in IT lingo : "primary key constraint" ] .

So a word of warning: If you DO want to mess with Vodacom [who makes you pay "upgrade fees" if you upgrade existing account] by canceling your existing contract and then taking out a new one [forcing them to do a CRAPLOAD of work without making you pay the "upgrade fee" ] , make sure you can wait a few months for your cancelled account to "clear from the system". You won't be able to take out a new contract while it's in it's "cancelled but active" state.
