Hi there

I'm looking for a 5.1 Gaming headset. Was looking at the Roccat Kave but don't know if there is any better out there. I have the steelseries siberia v2 now but I don't really like it anymore cause positional audio in games is just crap. Any suggestions

Thanks in advance

I just bought the kaves. very nice positional audio but uncomfortable as a brick bed. I heard the syberia v2 with virtual 7.1 is good but can't comment on the experience. there are the zalman 5.1 as well. people also reccomend Asus xonar cards with stereo headphones and using the asus virtual surround sound.

I have a xonar d1 with siberia v2 and still my positional is not that great. Maybe just me or my settings is incorrect but in call of duty: Balck ops the sound doesn't work all that great. Maybe just the game or what.

I would recommend the Razer Megalodon, if price is not an option. It is really comfortable.

But if you can wait then Razer are bringing out the Taimat which is true 7.1.

nelis: are you actually using the game profile (3D) in the Asus Xonar software, and also configure the game to use 4.1 - 7.1 speaker setup? From the quick review that I read about your Siberia v2, it should be very good for games, but still not quite Sennheiser HD5xx series quality :)

CoD:BO and BF:BC2 has really good 3D positional sound - or at least with my HD555 + Asus Xonar DX setup.

Ee nice for this bit of info. Gonna have my HD 598 + Xonar D1 set up. Cant wait :D :D :D

ok so should I have my xonar d1 setup to 2channel or 6 channel? cause when i set it to 2 channel black ops doesn't allowe me to sellect 5.1 or 7.1 surround. Please give me a noobs guide to 7.1 channel. What should I select in the control center and black ops etc etc.

If anyone is looking for the el cheapo route. Matrix is selling a Zixaa 5.1 headset which I have tested and found to be solidly built and excellent sound. It is built on the C-Media components. It goes for around R350.00.

I would also like a little guide on how to get the best sound out of the Xonar sound cards

G35's probably the nicest out there. Wife has the Roccat Kaves, but she said they are dog heavy & the padding on the head is too hard. I have a cheap set of Chinese ones from Matrix PC warehouse (5.1 USB), Been using them for 2 years, very happy with them. Best deal you will ever find for less that R400. Do a search for my pics in mybb somewhere...

i've been trying to decide between the kave and the G35 for a while now ... the only thing gets me more
about the G35 is that it doesnt matter what sound card u have as it has its own surround sound drivers/emulator .

any advice as to which is better ... I was also willing to go out and get a Xonar card just for the kave but wasnt
sure its worth the exp.

Yeah I am also keen on this information as I am on the verge of buying a Roccat Kave and want to know if I'm making the right decision or not. The reviews on the Roccat Kave are very good, but it's comfort that I need most of all.

Kaves are like R800, G35's about 1.2K... Logitech G35's are the grand daddy of gaming headsets (unless you want the wireless version). I would say G35 are the best. But in my opinion & i'm sure garvdh will concur, the Zixxa are worth double what you pay and therefor win hands down. I couldnt care less about the silly voice modification junk on the G35's, blehhh. I can choose between analogue or digital out on my headset, and the sound is flippin awesome if u ask me. On Team Speak, I can i can tell my Teamies exactly where an enemy is coming from by listening to the sound.

TBH I was going to get G35's but they were out of stock at the time, so in the interim I bought and used the Somnic e-95's (branded Zixxa now). I got them for like R340 back then... I never went back for the G35's .. no need!

They priced now by matrix at R399 ... so u really think its a much better option? ...
would u then suggest I get a
Xonar D2 to compliment the Zixxa or will my std onboard sound card still be ok?

Zixxa have their own sound drivers & hardware etc via USB... no need to worry about sound card.

EDIT: I have used these on Vista X86, Win7 X86 & X64 systems with no issues btw...
