5.1 Gaming headset

Zixxa have their own sound drivers & hardware etc via USB... no need to worry about sound card.

EDIT: I have used these on Vista X86, Win7 X86 & X64 systems with no issues btw...

Thanx mate, that really helps ... now i don't need to stress about a sound card and confirmed X64 safe :}

Ja, I'm also using it on Windows 7 X64 and the drivers from the CD installed just fine and put the configuration icon into my system tray.

I would Strongly recommend that you stay away from the G35's, cause it uses USB ant that requires Drives.

I would go for the Roccat Kaves(R 800) or the Tritton PC 510HDA(R 1100) ones, both of these are true surround sound 5.1 and that it crucial IMO for games, the G35's sound muffled if you do not tweak them constantly and they do not deliver the same quality a Kave/P510's would with a D2X sound card, and the positional audio is not as good.

I have a xonar d1 with siberia v2 and still my positional is not that great. Maybe just me or my settings is incorrect but in call of duty: Balck ops the sound doesn't work all that great. Maybe just the game or what.

Then get the Sennheiser HD555. R1,100 - R1,400. I got my HD595 via Take2 US/Amazon import service.

Your sound card does Dolby Pro Logic IIx which gives better virtual surround sound than on Kaves which have physical surround speakers (tested myself), I also believe they will trounce the G35's which are also virtual sound.

So I changed my speaker setup t 2.1 activated pro ogic IIx and 7.1 virtual and set black ops to 2.1 is that right?

Elaborate please?

+1, USB sucks.
their just is no way that a G35's build in sound card will be better than and Asus Xonar Sound card or creative Soundcard, not even the older Audigy 2ZS.
not even talking about the Sennhieser Xense kit.

Agree'd about USB, it is meh.
The funniest thing my mate said "Dude, my G35's trump any sennheiser, i tested them against some other guys and mine sounded so much better". Yus i laughed at him.

The tone seems similar on this forum. :p Except most of the guys here who rave about PC brand headsets probably haven't ever tried a good headset/headphones and sound card.

Of course, the latter is quite a fair bit pricier. Budget is the key. At lower budgets, G35's probably aren't too bad! :) But the best? Most definitely not.

By the way, G35's also incorporate Dolby Pro Logic, hence virtual 7.1 (on 2 speakers).

Still nobody is telling me how to setup my 7.1 When I set my analog out to headphones and my audio channel to 2ch and enable virtual 7.1 then it sounds like my audio is coming from the left side only. very weird.

Please tell me what I should change in Black ops. What command do I need to change/add in the config

You just set your channels to 8 and turn on Dolby Headphone.

BO should pick it up automatically.

If anyone is looking for the el cheapo route. Matrix is selling a Zixaa 5.1 headset which I have tested and found to be solidly built and excellent sound. It is built on the C-Media components. It goes for around R350.00.

These are the same as the original Cyber-Snipa's, who then got taken over by Somic, then Zixxa.. .but same product. I had these and still do have a pair, of Somic's that is... also have a pair of Roccat Kave's which in my opinion are the best, most comfortable and accurate. but double the price of the Zixxa/Somics...

If you are on a budget, go Zixxa, if not, go Roccat Kave's... my 2c

Thanks for clearing that up. Now my game is amazing. Asus xonar d1 with steelseries siberia v2 FTW

Not sure about the G35's but cant imagine it only has 2 speakers .... no way! My Somic e-95's have 3 per ear! ... http://www.onvon.com/somice95-51usb-headphone-p-9077.html
