5.1 sound and speakers help needed

Hi

With bf 3 coming out i want a good sound setup.

The issue i have is my 6990 and 6970 are taking up all the ports on my mobo so i cannot put in a sound card, is the onboard sound card going to be fine.

Logitech 5.1 X530 Speakers or what else can you recommend, i have max 1k o the 5.1 speakers.

How are those speakers and will the onboard sound make it? Could i use a usb sound card?

I think your onboard sound would be good enough for those speakers. An USB sound card should work, but I'm not sure if you're going to hear the difference over those speakers.

The next step up in quality would be a digital surround sound speaker setup, which you'll connect with an optical cable :)

Those like 3k though or have they become cheaper.

I will phone esquire now and see what speakers they got.

I have some free slots on my motherboard ~ maybe I can help ? :P

Surely a comfy pair of headphones would be better for an FPS like BF3 than 5.1 speakers? Especially considering neighbours :)

No i am tired of headphones, i want that surround sound experience plus i can bang my music louder than i can now :D.

What you guys think of those speakers, they are 399 ex vat from esquire. Worth having a go or stick with double the price logitech.

Dude, go Logitech you wont regret it. You will regret buying the Divoom speaker. My brother bought the 2.1 Divoom set and it's pathetic. My Logitech X-230's that I bought in 2007 produce far superior sound quality, it's why I'm still using them. :)
 
You bought a cheaper m-atx board, didn't you?

Personally, the difference between onboard and an Asus Xonar was night and day with my X-540's (pretty much identical to X-530), but that motherboard was using an older audio chip from early core2 days.

Look like good sound to me but i know very little about these things :D. Never used onboard. Either had usb headsets or pci card.
 
If you willing to spend on a decent speaker set with amp which can use the optical port then all the sound processing will be done by the speaker's amp.

Otherwise a R1000 speaker set will be fine with the onboard sound.

How much we talkin regardless optical? Could go up to 2k but no ways am i will to go more.
 
I have the same speakers with a Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card (PCI edition) cost me like R400+- back in the day, not sure how this helps with your situation, but I'm pretty sure your onboard should be decent enough?

Not to say physical 5.1 surround isn't good or potentially the best, but I don't think you've heard a decent sound card with Dolby Pro Logic IIx/Dolby headphone etc. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Pro_Logic. ;)
 
Bit the bullet and bought them, i drove right past pc int and dammit i couldn't resist.

Not bad 700 bucks and i just hope the onboard is fine now. The pci slot at the bottom is taken up the 6990 and the top is taken up the 6970. Even i could fit it in the heat would also be a major issue as the 6990 is like having a heater in your room :D.
 
I have the update of the x530's from Logitech. The Z506 I think it is. Really nice speakers. Awesome sound for the price. Retail on thrm is sround R700 or so.

These days I'm really questioning the wisdom of 5.1 Its just not often you have a setup suitable for 5.1 audio. Who has speakers stands or whatever at just the right height and distance? I certainly dont in my bedroom, unless I move my stuff around just for the audio. Not worth it to me, I like my room how it is.
 
Well i converted my bedroom into my pc room and the tv room into my bedroom :D. So much nicer sleeping in front of the projector on my bed and not the couch.

I agree for the most part.
Music plays in 2.1 unless you force it to play through all the speakers, and often the same goes for videos. Then you get to the room setup too.... I ended up placing my rear speakers next to my front speakers, and would have removed them entirely if it wasn't for the fact that I essentially paid R400 for those two speakers.

So the 6990 is running in the 4x slot(white one)?

You can extend that to home theatre systems as well. I'm running 3.1 and couldn't be phased to go through the effort of setting up rear speakers. Dolby Prologic IIz will have to suffice for now.
