Hi guys

So I bought a 5.1 surround sound system today. My PC is only picking up the left & right speakers - I'm unable to choose (or tick) the surround option under configuration.

Am I doing something wrong (setting up the system is child's play)? Or do I have to play something in dolby or dts? Or do I have to buy a sound card to be able to play this system.

Thank you in advance guys :)

Do you have a 5.1 capable motherboard on board sound or sound card?
Connects with either
Optical
Coaxial
Direct (3 3.5mm cables)

A cheap sound card would do the job.
8 Channel cards go for R99.
Go for Creative/ realtek for better quality

One more question please, do you think I would have any compatibility issues with my mobo.

As long as you have one of your 4 pci slots open, no. Genius cards are not bad either. Also affordable.

For the record, your mobo already has Intel® High Definition Audio

I would check out this: http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/hdaudio.htm and see what you can do with that feature before forking out money...

Especially the DEMO will interest you! :D
