Are they or do they have their own unique sensors? The way you describe it the people researching it are just making it all up.

To your first point, I stated that it does not make children hyperactive but gives them the energy to be more hyperactive. A child can run, play or scream considerably more after eating a clump of sugar, guaranteed.

Second point, As I said I have heard people use that phrase in general conversation but was never formally taught it and always knew it to be an exaggerated sensationalism, as any smart person or child should.

Third point, you don't seem to have learnt anything at school if you truly believe that. You were taught that those are the tastes you can experience, had you studied further you would have realised that tastes you can detect breaks down into a molecular level and is considerably more complicated than any of this junk you or the article have mentioned (this has been known for years).

Fourth point, there are many sensors for detecting different forms of "touch" for example. We are taught to group them into 5 basic senses as this is understandable. The scientists adding different senses as in the article are just defining the grouping differently. For example Thermoception and Proprioception were always just historically grouped under touch for simplicity sake. We have known about them yet again for a very long time and the information has been freely available to go research yourself using what you were taught at school as a grounding.

My point is to say what you are taught at school is completely wrong is very short sighted and ignorant. Most things you are taught are merely the grounding to further your knowledge as is the case in almost every section detailed in the post. If you want to get funny about it I can also show you that every physics equation we learnt at school is "wrong". We know that they are incorrect and cannot truly define the universe but they are not incorrect if used with that knowledge, just like grouping tastes or senses.
 
That is indeed not true. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a good piece of perfectly cooked meat can attest to the fact that they do in fact get pleasure from said food. But don't bring up claims about sugar being similar to cocaine if you don't want to talk about it.
Also someone that doesn't understand the terms being used. Sure you get pleasure from it the same as doing an activity you like but it doesn't excite the pleasure receptors itself. Only carbs do that.

But it does. Obviously though it would depend on the child.

It's not a myth. We generally don't use more than about 15% of our brains and most of the time not more than 10%. What the article assumes is that the 10% means there's 90% of it that isn't used at all. This is not correct but it was never claimed. The 10% refers only to the amount of neurons we use in any given instant.

Erm NO. We generally detect tastes in specific areas of the mouth though they overlap a bit. Umami is also not a 5th taste as it is actually salty. What substances like MSG do though is act on receptors in the brain as well which alters taste and makes you remember them for longer but that is not a 5th taste.

They definitely are here. What is referred to as touch is more accurately the cutaneous sense so anything from touch to pain to heat and cold falls under it. Proprioception isn't even a sense. I am not talking about hitting your big tow and knowing it's your big toe. The ability to know where you body parts are in relation to one another falls under spacial recognition and it's a general ability our brain has. We've known about it for centuries but it's not a sense.
