In the process of buying a 50 inch but get mix advise regarding Plasma Full HD or LCD. I spent 80% of time on SD PVR sport satellite, but planning on a HD PVR unit. Which is better. Plasma or LCD. Most importantly there is a vast difference between Plasma HD ready and Plasma Full HD cost. Is is penny wise to go for Full HD. Some advise and steer on this much appreciated.

It would be best to post your question in the other threads that have been stickied but considering that you will be mostly watching SD content as well as sport I would go for the plasma at this price point as it handles motion better than a LCD. As far as Full HD versus HD ready it all depends. Lots of guys are extremely happy with their HD ready tv sets. What is your distance from the tv when you're watching....?

Distance from viewing seat to wall = 3/4 meters. Planning to mount unit on hanging bracket.

Would suggest that if you only going to watch TV broadcasts then HD Ready is fine as no broadcasts are full HD. However if you intend wtaching Bluray rtc then full HD is better. At the size of Tv you are considering I would say Plasma is better.

You'll want to get a plasma - no question about it. Handles SD and sport better generally, and especially at the lower end of the market.

Don't buy the HD vs FHD hype, not even experts can discern the difference from 2.5m+/viewing distance. If all your media is FHD, or you need to connect to a PC where you'd want max resolution, then sure, you would want to get FHD. Even if you were to get HD PVR, its max resolution is 720p/HD. I strongly suggest you do, for sport especially, you should be able to with your saving by going for plasma compared to more expensive and inferior-for-SD-and-sport ±50" entry level LCD.

The 50" models you'll want to look at, which are the most popular purchases and the "tried, tested and trusted" plasmas, are the Samsung PS50C430 and Samsung PS50C450 (anti-reflective coating, better menu system, USB media player, FM radio, extra HDMI port, and some other small features).

Only if you sit close enough to the tv.

The lighting of the room fairly good. No direct sunlight were allocated monitor will be mounted. The blinds / curtains closed @ viewing time.

Had it been 40", would u recommend the LCD? Is the plasma being recommended specifically for the size?

No. It's being recommended specifically for the content that he intends to watch :)

OP: "I spent 80% of time on SD PVR sport satellite"

It's being specifically recommended because plasmas are generally better at handling SD/SD TV/sport, especially at the lower end of the market, where they are much better than lower end LCDs at the aforementioned tasks. The fact that plasma offers better value for money and bigger size for the price is a huge added bonus. ;)

For ±40", I would recommend a 42" plasma - Samsung PS42C430/450.

Regarding gaming what would be recommended? I'm guessing plasma too due to the fast moving images?

All I'll say is this:

LCD is recommended for gaming because plasma is more susceptible to burn-in.

But if you use your plasma correctly, take a break every 2 hours to get rid of any image retention you might have developed; play games that have cut scenes and cinematics so as to "refresh" static images; you will get a better experience with plasma, generally due to its much faster response time, deeper blacks, and more natural/accurate colours. The size alone, too, is enough to give you a better experience.

I suppose that myself and alot of others have been under the impression that LCD is better "because it costs more".

Don't worry, many think the same. ;)

The best TV in the world (plasma) costs more than the best LCD, I think. :D
