Hello everyone,

I bought a BenQ Nettop a few days ago which came bundled with Windows XP preloaded onto it. It seems to constantly use 500MB of my 1GB RAM when idling. I have removed all unnecessary things from the startup and also uninstalled most of the bundled software except for the Webcam applications. What could be the issue here?

My XP desktop is using only around 250MB on idle.:wtf:

All of the applications listed have very low memory usage. (Forgot to mention that)

Can you do a print screen of your task manager performance tab?

If you look at the Commit charge field, Total - that is the amount of RAM (physical and Virtual) that your system is currently using.

Peak is the highest amount of RAM (physical and virtual) that your system has used since it was started. The peak should always be lower than the Physical installed RAM to ensure your system runs fine.

The system cache is memory that has been used, but can be reused if required, i.e. the RAM is not immediately flushed so that future requests can be read from fast RAM instead of slow disk. If the RAM used by the cache is required, then it will be overwritten. You should watch the Commit charge - Peak, if it goes higher than 1gig (your RAM), then you should consider buying more RAM; Don't worry about the Cache....
